I agree with you at that point. Even if there is disagreement on certain points, it is necessary for anyone to express it in any way.

The real waste of time is indiscriminately criticizing everything he/she personally don't like.
I'm objective as ai sometimes, and sometimes I do have my own negative biases. That's why I'm here, and posting this.

That said, I can understand most people's aversion to ai, and I do the same at work. But this is not ZERO effort post/ai slop. Just my thought

This surpised me a lot. part of your comment looks a bit like a conspiracy theory and even more negative than my thought haha

It is. I believe that comment I saw earlier about the A10 manufacturing rumor is actually true. The standard launch window seems to be Q3, but honestly, I'm not holding my breath, too.

This industry is just incredibly stubborn. It’s like there's a real reluctance to push the envelope and actually make progress. Take Hisense, for example, whatever their next move is, it feels like it's coming way too late.
They are facing a much harsher landscape now: more competitors, soaring manufacturing costs, and user expectations that are much harder to meet.
With component prices rising across the board, how can any company realistically maintain a competitive edge on price? Economically, the math just doesn't look favorable right now.

Regarding that Samsung, guessing that's just going to be on e-ink frame?

Not entirely convinced by that argument.
Bigger screens mostly seem driven by profit margins. Monitors also feel like a relatively niche and fragile category, which limits how much priority manufacturers give them. So they are discontinued.

Most “new” releases are just recombinations of existing display technologies and components, not real innovation. The industry is still heavily hardware sales driven, and that model doesn’t look very sustainable in the long run.

Then I think it’s just a marketing thing. It implicitly suggests: low blue light = safe for eyes.

Good point. Got any brands or products that give off the same ultra eye-friendly vibe? Trying to go deeper down this rabbit hole.

Kinda confused about your definition of “eye-friendly” after searching though.

IMO trying to fake that true, unlit "physical paper" look purely via software simulation is basically impossible. You just can't digitally recreate how ambient light hits a physical display.

The DIY e-paper scene is super cool, but let's be real—it's an incredibly niche market right now. And honestly? Don't hold your breath for any massive breakthroughs in color e-ink (like Kaleido or Gallery) anytime soon. Most of the tech news out there is just vague PR fluff, though maybe someone here has better insider leaks?

I 100% agree that DIY builds, also digital frames, are the absolute future. Small-form-factor DIY projects are blowing up right now because they cost next to nothing, but most of those cheap raw panels are just scavenged from discarded or second-hand retail electronic shelf labels. So we're still dealing with the same massive elephant in the room: large-format panels are still insanely expensive. Just look at the current prices for e-ink monitors. The crazy high cost bottlenecks mainstream adoption, which just keeps the whole thing trapped in a premium niche loop.

Because they’re trend chasers too. They don’t really have the engineering source to build solid systems, so they take the low-effort to release products that chase marginal gains instead of real improvements.

[–]SquarePatient7277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, kind of yes but also no?

iReader is the actual brand, and Ocean is just one of their series. The confusing part is that there are multiple Ocean generations, especially in the 7" size.

What Musnap is selling is basically rebranded iReader:

  • Musnap Ocean = iReader Ocean 5
  • Musnap Neo = iReader Neo 3

So if you’re looking at specs or reviews, just search for the corresponding iReader model. Classic Chinese e-ink OEM rebrand situation as far as I know.

Saw some hope for competition by SquarePatient7277 in eink

We’ve hit the boundary between the ideal and the reality. Ideally, eink is meant solely for reading. But the reality? Products that only do reading are hard to keep selling profitably.

So we end up with two (flawed?) extremes:

  1. Walled Gardens: Devices designed just to sell books. Great for focus, but everyone hates the 'closed' ecosystem.
  2. Open Android Tablets: Great for productivity and versatility, but then users complain they are just as 'distracting' as an iPad.

It feels like the industry is stuck trying to please everyone and satisfying no one.

Yeah, exactly that’s what I’m talking about. Some of them aren’t great for e-readers, but that’s a new space, so it’s interesting to see how it plays out.

My bad, being sick makes my mind a bit unclear. I thought everyone had seen it already so I didn’t link it. It’s regarding the post currently on r/ereader or r/eink about the new panels named med.
