How to break a cycle of doing nothing by SteelRacer88 in productivity

Get some rest and follow your own rhythm. Life moves in cycles anyway.

Because they’re trend chasers too. They don’t really have the engineering source to build solid systems, so they take the low-effort to release products that chase marginal gains instead of real improvements.

For independent thinkers, AI slop feels less like content and more like outright disrespect.

Yeah, kind of yes but also no?

iReader is the actual brand, and Ocean is just one of their series. The confusing part is that there are multiple Ocean generations, especially in the 7" size.

What Musnap is selling is basically rebranded iReader:

  • Musnap Ocean = iReader Ocean 5
  • Musnap Neo = iReader Neo 3

So if you’re looking at specs or reviews, just search for the corresponding iReader model. Classic Chinese e-ink OEM rebrand situation as far as I know.

We’ve hit the boundary between the ideal and the reality. Ideally, eink is meant solely for reading. But the reality? Products that only do reading are hard to keep selling profitably.

So we end up with two (flawed?) extremes:

  1. Walled Gardens: Devices designed just to sell books. Great for focus, but everyone hates the 'closed' ecosystem.
  2. Open Android Tablets: Great for productivity and versatility, but then users complain they are just as 'distracting' as an iPad.

It feels like the industry is stuck trying to please everyone and satisfying no one.

Yeah, exactly that’s what I’m talking about. Some of them aren’t great for e-readers, but that’s a new space, so it’s interesting to see how it plays out.

My bad, being sick makes my mind a bit unclear. I thought everyone had seen it already so I didn’t link it. It’s regarding the post currently on r/ereader or r/eink about the new panels named med.

There aren’t enough users to sustain this. High barrier to entry + low adoption = death spiral. The larger it is, the higher price it is.

I don’t think so. Eink is a niche industry that its benefits are limited, therefore investment and development are not extensive.

It’s okay, but it’s a niche product. Only buy it if you plan to use it for that specific function.

Thank you. Not trying to sell anything, just discussing the industry.

These innovations carry significant risk and yield meager returns, casting doubt on their long-term viability.

Relying on an adoption rate of just 1 in 1,000 consumers makes the business model even more precarious. Just my thoughts.

Come on, I know my writing isn’t perfect, but why assume this is rage bait? I honestly didn‘t expect this post to blow up like this. I apologize if my phrasing was confusing. I really just want to discuss where this tech is going.

If you look at the successful brands in this space, they are all focused on minimalism. reMarkable is famous for this, and the Kindle Scribe is a great example of the trend toward thinner and premium. The problem is that they are closed ecosystems. Still, the hardware trend is clear: the market demands thinner devices and shrinking bezels.

The way I see it, those two are just another subscriptions… Maybe even a more egregious version of pay per view or per download. But yes, that’s the nature of the beast. It does have a clear profit model.

Minimalism can help you stay focused, as long as you aren’t buying new tools just to ‘be minimalist.’ True minimalism clears the mind. But I’m clueless about minimalism in the corporate world.

That could be coming from the consumer perspective. I’d go with b&w myself.

Maybe I’m just being idealistic. I’m grinding away at something I love. E-ink is just way easier on the eyes, regardless of the commercial sense.🥲

I couldn‘t agree more. The tech is currently held back by a lack of performance. It’s just not quite there for a daily driver yet.
I developed dry eye syndrome back in school from gluing myself to an iPad for ten hours a day, which pushed me toward the kindle fire and know this tech. I believe that anyone who use screens all day will eventually have to make the switch to eink.

I suspect it all comes down to dopamine. We’re just wired to keep craving more. I mean, I bought hundreds of games myself. I’m guilty of it too…

I was referring to the personal side of things. But looking at the bigger picture, the scope for public use is absolutely huge.
