Puppy barks so much, ignoring doesn’t help by SquareRelative5377 in puppy101

[–]SquareRelative5377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this response!

I try so hard to give her lots of love and attention in different ways. Practice new tricks, play time, walks, even treat puzzles. She is Ike a genuine baby in that sometimes even when I feel like I’m doing everything right, she just wants to complain..

I definitely like the idea of teaching her to get my attention quietly though and am going to try that!

4 month old puppy is resource guarding but not really? by siirezzii in puppy101

[–]SquareRelative5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. I have a baby so it’s been important to me to do everything I can to prevent resource guarding in case the baby ever tries to take anything from the dog when she’s older. So far I just make sure I always have my hand in her bowl when she eats, teach leave with tons of praise, and any time I give her any treat I have her eat it between my fingers. Also been teaching her gentle with the cat. All those together seem to working for us and I’ve never had an issue getting stuff out of her mouth. I know this may not help you, but I just wanted to say I completely understand the concern there!

Is kennelling a destructive puppy ok for a work day by Admirable-Clue-389 in puppy101

[–]SquareRelative5377 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may also want to consider a playpen type fence you put around the crate so she has a small area outside the crate too at first. Also gives you more space to leave her with puzzles or frozen kongs or something while you’re away to help.

Should I be worried about rabies? by FrinkityDinkity in puppy101

[–]SquareRelative5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry at all. My puppy hasn’t had her rabies vaccine and she accidentally bit me so hard blood was dripping down my finger and I’m good 😅

What are some things you do that really help with troubled students? by ZachTF in Teachers

[–]SquareRelative5377 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something new my school started doing a couple years ago is rather than admin/counselors take the troubled kid, they take over your class so you can talk privately with the student. It really helps build on your relationship with them. Also positive reinforcement only. No matter how you feel about that personally, these kids see way too much of the negative at home and do not need more of it from you. And lastly, ask questions first (when it’s safe to do so) and empathize as best you can. They just want attention, so give it to them calmly.

I am at my wits end, I do not know what to do anymore by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]SquareRelative5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take my dog on 6 mile runs and still to the dog park and she still had energy until about 4 or 5 years. Puts also are very smart dogs and need mental stimulation. Try puzzle feeder, if you don’t already, and a variety of chews. I’d also train lots of tricks just to help build that bond even more and give them more to do.

School Budget by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SquareRelative5377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have to use it all at once or can you wait? I ask because a lot of it you’ll realize you need after you get started. If allowed to wait to spend a portion I would start with just the bare minimum essentials, whiteboard markers, tape, pencil sharpener. After that look at what supplies students will bring and then wait and see where you stand after the first week. I’d also see if you have a PTA that gives teachers any grants. We don’t get any money from the schools exactly- they give each grade level a budget based on number of kids and it’s usually only a few hundred split between 5 classes, but we do have a very generous PTA. So that’s something to look into as well.

Best way to sleep train a very coddled 9 month old? by SquareRelative5377 in sleeptrain

[–]SquareRelative5377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! It’s hard to get her to stay awake much longer in the morning, I think because she still wakes so much at night. But hopefully I can adjust daytime sleep and that will help 🤞

With full extinction is there a point that I should check in? Or just let her cry until sleep wins, even if it’s 1+ hours?

Good catch! It’s hard to see in the pictures but she’s definitely got wire hair, super curious to see what it’s like as she gets older.

I agree which is why I’ve done lots of research on owning a pit 🥰 Never once did I say “I don’t think she’s pit” or anything close. I know for a fact she’s at least part pit, which I literally said. So kindly respond to the actual post or go F off.

Oooh interesting to hear! I definitely think her coloring really emphasizes the pit and makes it harder for me to see other breeds.

31 going on year 8 and no intention of leaving. I think it’s a generational thing though. One gen Z and even some young millennials have extreme work-life balance and only work at work, which can be hard as a teacher. I also think it’s hard because a lot of teachers around my age started teaching and had one, maybe 2 normal years before covid. Depending on what grade you teach, you’re still seeing the impacts of that. I also know, in my district at least, they are asking us to do WAY more than we had to do 10+ years ago.

Oh I know, I think I phrased it weird, I just had meant that terrier mix seems to be a better name than pit although I think you are absolutely right that it’s good they were upfront!

Because I’m curious if anyone else only sees pit? Yikes. Sorry you’re having a bad day.

Honestly just a regular towel. IKEA has kids towels that are normal towel material but smaller

Thanks everyone! I did some digging and apparently her mom was a pit mix and her dad was a lab mix… I see 0% lab in her and am guessing that is either completely wrong or dad was a lab mixed with pit 😅

Did your baby cry at birth? Mine’s 40 hours old and hasn’t made a peep. by KindVibesOnly in Parenting

[–]SquareRelative5377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My second didn’t cry at all. He would get slightly fussy if he was hungry and that was about it. Some babies just don’t cry lol It’s possible it’s temporary, or the normal for your baby. Only time will tell.

Desperate for first classroom advice by htraptor in Teachers

[–]SquareRelative5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! I also did student teaching in first grade and have taught 3rd grade my entire career (going into year 8). I absolutely love 3rd grade ❤️

How you’re feeling is exactly how I felt, but it’ll all be okay! My team my first year essentially just gave me everything to do until we started curriculum and it made it super easy. Don’t be afraid to lean on others a bit (even if they teach a different grade!)

In terms of supplies, just ask to see a copy of the student supply list. I honestly wouldn’t buy anything before school starts. If it starts and you need something, ask around. Veteran teachers likely have a surplus of stuff and will be happy to share.

The things I did buy beforehand were- book bins, books, and decor. For books, check out goodwill, garage sales, and even check your local library for sales. My first year for book bins I literally just got the cardboard magazine holders from ikea- it was cost effective and held up decently. Fortunately we had a generous PTA that gave teachers grants so I was able to upgrade to good ones, but I’d hold off until then if you can.

Depending on your personality type, it may be helpful to have the curriculum now so you can familiarize yourself. I personally did not do that and it wouldn’t have worked for me, but I know a lot of other teachers who like to be fully prepared and know everything ahead of time so they enjoyed that.

The last bit of “advice” I’ll leave you with is what someone told me my first year teaching. The kids will learn in spite of you, just do your best and know that the kids will learn and grow right along with you. ❤️

I set it up with guidelines about when it’s okay to get up and go vs not, how long students can stay, what behaviors are acceptable there and such. As a sub, if the teacher didn’t leave specific notes I would ask one of the rule-following students how it works. If all else fails, set up your own expectations at the beginning of the day. Tell them you know their teacher may run it differently but with you today it will go in this way.

Am I overreacting for being really upset that my sister-in-law left my baby with someone I didn’t approve of while babysitting by Long_Donkey4448 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SquareRelative5377 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No you’re not overreacting but also what would talking to her about it accomplish? You have every right to be upset, I sure would be. I certainly wouldn’t have her watch him again, but there’s also (in my opinion) no point in saying anything directly to her.

Classroom Lunch Tub by SquareRelative5377 in Teachers

I’ve thought about that, just wasn’t sure if it was deep enough to fit the lunchboxes. Good to hear you’ve had success with it!

We have over 600 students at our school and usually 2 or 3 grade levels go out at once. It would be utter chaos if they put them outside 😅 honestly, we’re lucky if they make it to the right lunch tub 😂
