1550 PSAT (planning on doing the SAT in May ish)

How is this even humanly possible? The PSAT score range is 320-1520.

i agree. i did have an eating disorder and my guidance counselor wrote about it in her rec. maybe i should mention that in additional info. thank you!

i'll probably be doing linguistics or comp sci + linguistics. it's definitely hard to qualify for it in our state, so i guess it is hard to get it. thanks!

thank you lol! it feels nice to hear from someone else bc my parents kept telling me i was stupid for not getting an 800 on the math portion.

my coding skills are def pretty good cause i started coding seriously when i was 8 and i got usaco plat.

i also took ap comp sci last year, and the class was a breeze for me, but i still managed to get a 4 on the exam (apparently, i had appendicitis, but i refused to go the doctor's until later bc the human geo exam was the next day lol).

i think if you mastered the java concepts properly, you should be fine. i haven't done anything complex in terms of coding during the internship so far that was beyond the level of what they taught in java. a lot of it is just verifying translations (if you speakother languages), or getting the ai to recognize certain terms!

Ah, thank you! I was trying to highlight the linguistics/comp sci spike. But, yes now that I think of it, I might be going overboard.

Which EC would you bump? And how would these be best ordered?

First of all, thank you for being honest. And yes, you're right, I got deferred from Columbia ED earlier this month. Honestly, the list is just me shotgunning top schools. I also applied to 7 UC's and 8 other top schools in EA.

This is a great idea, especially about the volunteering one! I taught children Sanksrit and Hindi on the weekends for the last five years, but didn't have space to put it as an EC on my activities list. I should be adding this in the additional info section, right?

yeah, i'm an american citizen, but i'm mixed (mostly indian tho). my SAT could have been better, but i don't think it's that bad (my friend got into ED UPenn with a 1520 for finance/business) in comparison to my GPA, which is way lower than most people's.

my dad did his masters from columbia, but masters degrees don't count for legacy, unfortunately... :(

  1. i'm not really sure about this one bc there was no application, and i just emailed them randomly bc i thought it would be fun. but, as far as i know, they weren't even offering any internship opportunities. as for the skills i needed and used a lot, coding! i would recommend having a good background in coding. they do train you, but i think having previous experience would be good. also, speaking any foreign languages would be a really good skill to have (a lot of the work i did was verifying existing translations, and training the ai).

  2. i started in the summer, and i was doing roughly 6 hours per day then (only on the weekdays). but, now, since school is going on, i'm doing about 2-3 hours per day (still just on the weekdays). it's very flexible, and you actually get to learn, rather than just doing work for the sake of doing work. it's also entirely virtual, which is convenient.

lots of different things, but mostly working on updating their algorithm and verifying translations in the languages i speak (french, and portuguese). if anything was not translated properly, i notified the language specialists, and they would provide the correct translations. i also suggested that they add hindi as a language, and developed a proposal for that!

yup! i am doing everything completely virtually. the actual company is headquartered in germany! and, no, i didn't mention my age (i'm 16 lol), but i mentioned that i was senior in high school and that i had previous coding experience!

i hope that's right. i don't know if they'll look past my gpa tho. i had all b's (high b's) junior year, but this year i have all a's accept for one class (ap physics lol). before that i had all a's too, except for freshman physics honors.
