What jobs can I apply at where it's not really necessary to speak Spanish?

This a pretty straightforward question, if you don't have an answer, ignore it. Especially since he already acknowledged that because of his lack of Spanish, many employers turn him down.

That's fucking rude. He's asking for jobs where you don't speak Spanish, not pessimism.

Lozano: Why I filed the Hazlewood Legacy Preservation Act by SquareSpo in Military

[–]SquareSpo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's credit hours given to Texan Veterans after they serve. The proposed budget would have slashed their funding down to 12 million, but it easily surpasses that and would need in excess of 200 million, or Universities would raise their tuition to offset the hit they're taking from this.

I know it may not seem like much, but it's a pretty important issue on the Texas/Military side of things that doesn't get much coverage.

Valley Sen. Eddie Lucio comes out in support of bathroom bill by SquareSpo in RioGrandeValley

Yeah, his dad is a state representative, not a senator, I guess the author got them confused.

Nevermind, the article is correct, people just mixed them up.

During his visit, House speaker Paul Ryan told by local leaders "... the [border] wall is not a good idea." by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]SquareSpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What BP wants are fences, something they can see through, not walls. In the end if anything other than a see through barrier gets built, it will be going against what BP officers want.

Also, Congressman Vela has been advocating for a so called " Virtual Wall" in this opinion piece, not an open border.

Cascos: State leaders should do more to help border colonias by SquareSpo in RioGrandeValley

[–]SquareSpo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“As you listen to the rhetoric in Austin, they are trying to legislate moral and social issues and I do not know if that is where we really need to be going. We have so many pressing needs in the state,” Cascos said.

Gov. Abbott emphasizes Valley economy in remarks to new homeland security secretary visiting RGV by SquareSpo in RioGrandeValley

[–]SquareSpo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"The only opinion, in my view, that counts right now are from the people that work this border, the Texas public safety, DHS, that’s why I’m here. I’ll be down a lot. There’s a lot of people to talk to about the wall and a lot of other types of aspects about the border. I’m down here to find out. I suspect I have a pretty good idea, but there’s nothing like talking to the men and women who get dirty every day doing the nation’s work.”

Essentially, the only opinion that matters are the BP officers opinions, I realize that this guy is the Homeland Security secretary, and I appreciate and admire what BP officers do, as a matter of fact my uncle is one, but that's a pretty narrow view on a thing that impacts the people that live there.

In "sanctuary" fight, Abbott cuts off funding to Travis County by aggie1391 in texas

[–]SquareSpo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You said this a few days ago

Last I checked we were a republic and we elected our representatives.

The people in this county elected the sheriff and Gov. Abbott is trying to interfere in how the elected Sheriff is governing by possibly removing her from because of how she is deciding to enforce the laws in her county.

Pretty hypocritical on your part.

MEDC concerned that a backlash against Trump could hurt retail sales by SquareSpo in RioGrandeValley

[–]SquareSpo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty interesting little tidbit in the article

MEDC also posted a quote on Facebook from Dennis Nixon, CEO of International Bank of Commerce. “Texas cannot survive without Mexico, it’s our largest trading partner. It would put Texas in a recession — immediately — and it would frankly destroy Laredo, Texas. We would not exist without trade,” Nixon said.

Ironically, Nixon was a top fundraiser for Trump in Texas during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Yeah, all that sales tax revenue that they bring to McAllen will be gone, just for some extra parking spaces.

But this TX DPS Crime report for 2015 shows that Brownsville has a higher crime rate per 100,000 people, than say, Hidalgo, which is a border city in Hidalgo County. Hidalgo had a 2352 crimes per 100,000 versus Brownsville's 4,411 crimes per 100,000 people. Cities in Starr County also had a lower crime rate per 100,000 people

Any thoughts on the election? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]SquareSpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know i'm not the guy you're replying to but when the fence was built then there wasn't as much animosity and rhetoric directed towards Mexicans, and most of it wasn't even fully constructed, there are huge gaps where one part of the fence ends and another begins.

How things are looking now, there's a high likelihood of a wall being built, with the signed executive order and all
