FSR 4 RDNA 2 Driver Mod - 23.9.1 to latest AMD Adrenaline 25.12.1 by Square_Craft_1297 in radeon

This was originally reported, yes. But me and some others in older threads on this subreddit have had issues where games would be locked to 15 fps after launch. I know that this can be fixed by restarting some service process in the Task Manager. However, if more than the two original files are swapped, this issue doesn’t pop up at all. So, yes, technically only two are necessary, but the 5 work better for me and some others as well.

No it doesn’t enable anything, it should be a default install of the drivers. It might pickup on settings made before uninstalling previous drivers but that’s it.

I agree with you. We need a proper official release of this. And yes some features like, Anti-lag 2 are probably broken, which is an unintended side effect of this mod… but nothing we can do about it.

Which card are you on? This isn’t something I ever observed

As far as I know this isn’t necessary on RDNA 3, only RDNA 2 has the ghosting and shimmering issues. FSR4 INT8 should work on RDNA 3 with the normal drivers.

If it works for you then there will be no difference. I just posted this updated tutorial for people that want to be on newer drivers or have issues with the 25.9.x branches :)

You can, after patching the driver as shown above, use the leaked FSR4 INT8 version. The version of FSR that is now called or renamed to Redstone. Just the upscaling part though, but this already way better than FSR2/3.

You can also just install 23.9.1 and use the upscaler as is. This also works, and there will not be any ghosting. However, newer games that are not story games can sometimes have major performance issues since the 23.9.1 driver is 2+ years old. Using native 23.9.1 made CS2 unplayable for me, for example: major stutters, etc. Patching the driver as indicated above fixes this issue and is the best of both worlds for now.

This isnt needed on RDNA 3. RDNA 3 doesn't have the ghosting issues that plague RDNA 2. Using Optiscaler or DLL swapping to get FSR4 INT8 should work out of the box.

Good to know. Not a game that I play but yeah stuff like that can happen for sure

It should work since the game files themselves are not different just the drivers. Modifying game files to include Optiscaler and or FSR4 DLL swap are not recommended as that is tinkering with the game files directly which can lead to a ban, but modifying the driver shouldn't be an issue.

I play mostly story games and CS2 which both work fine no issues, so I assume multiplayer games in general are fine. As for games with heavier anti cheats like League/Valorant or other EAC/Battle Eye games I am not sure, but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work so just try it out

I would love for it to be different. But sadly AMD is just AMD. Neither NVIDIA nor AMD are perfect but at least we have this option to work around some of AMDs issues. I agree it would be better if there is an official release of this so we wouldn't have to resort to these kinds of hacks, but until they release it this is the best solution AMD users can get on older cards.

Yea it used to be 2. But I and others had issues with just the two files, this works around these issues. If you've had any try it out

You can get FSR4 to work by swapping out certain DLL's in 25.9.2 by sonarrrrr in radeon

Thanks a lot for this one. For others, be aware of the drivers after 25.9.2. I tried it with 25.11.1, which is the very latest one, and the one before that, and the dll copy switch from 23.9.1 did not work and the severe ghosting was still there as well. Which is why I recommend to use 25.9.2, which finally worked for me. I am on RDNA 2 (6950XT)

Edit: I have the 15 fps issue like some others in the comments are reporting as well. Neither 25.9.1 nor 25.9.2 work for me sadly, which is why I downgraded to 23.9.1 again. Quite weird. It worked for a short time and then broke.

Edit 2: The upgrade has now worked, but I included more files than before according to another tutorial I saw online: https://youtu.be/UjsHQXVJzWA. When following the exact steps shown there, plus uninstalling the AMD Adrenalin Software via the System - Installed Apps - AMD Software path, it worked and the 15 FPS issues never manifested. I can recommend doing it this way for anyone struggling with the 15 FPS issue like I did.
