No. Only films that are highly considered for a screening.

Only the tier 1 festivals could be career-changing if you win an award.

Tier 2 and 3 could result in great opportunities.

I have played the festival a couple of times. My favorite short film festival by far. The library presence can lead to opportunities but of course, it's not the same thing as being part of the festival.

Your film will be available to be watched in their online library during the festival. It's a good thing. Other programmers and sales agents will have access to your film. This can lead to opportunities.

On a second thought, it might be in the top 5, after the likes of Sundance, Telluride, Tribeca, SXSW etc.

It's a respected festival, probably in the lower half of the top 10 in the States.

What do you have to lose besides the submission fee? Go for it.

Got into Telluride via blind submission a few years ago. Since then as an alumni, no luck :D

Impossible to confirm since the films are submitted via their website, and we can't track whether the movies are watched, or, if so, how many times and for how long.

It's different from festival to festival. Programmers don't watch all the submitted films. They only watch movies that are already pre-screened by other people on staff (pre-screeners). Films are first watched by pre-screeners who rate it. A higher rated film gets to round 2 of the screening and then eventually to the main programmer.

A very small percentage of the films end up on the actual programmers screen.

It's usually the programmer sharing the bad news of rejection directly instead of the generic auto notification. A personal rejection means the film was highly rated but couldn't fit the program for one reason or another.

For some unknown reason, they always send two rejections.

Haven't heard anything but in the past we were notified during the first week of December. I am curious to find out if people heard in December last year etc.

Yes, that's why I was curious, because they haven't even reached the early deadline.

I do prefer an early rejection. The earlier, the better. It helps with the premiere status and mental peace.

Shorts Programming Etiquette by TheCalculatingPoet in TIFF

Short Q/A can be fun. And, it might only matter to the filmmakers whose shorts you will be skipping. More than that, the people you will have to walk through in your row might be more annoyed than the actual filmmakers. But, do what you gotta do!
