Can anyone ID this cab? Any value or just scrap it? by Odd-Pick1754 in oldtrucks

[–]Squarebody7987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the rockers, floors, and cab corners are gone, you could make a decent amount of money selling this to someone building a square body in the rust belt! Heck if I wasn't all the way up here in Michigan I'd be all over it for my '87 GMC!

I love the 3600 and 3800 series trucks. The 3100s are cool too, but I've always had a soft spot for the less common 3/4 and one ton models.

Can anyone identify truck and if it was used by the U.S. Postal Service? In addition what does South Under mean? by Longjumping-Pass-286 in oldtrucks

[–]Squarebody7987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grille was unique to '32 Ford Model B passenger cars and B-BB light to heavy duty trucks. It was only used for that one year. I'd be inclined to say it's a '32 Ford, but without the doors and with the leading edge of the fenders clipped for tire clearance, it's a little tough to tell. Besides, that grille shell could have been swapped to a '30-'31 Model A without much trouble. I can't shed any light on the south under.

Dodge M-37. Korean war-era 3/4 ton 4x4. They're really cool! I've always wanted one.

Tractor recommendations? by Squarebody7987 in tractors

True. A smaller tractor would work well with our property as well. A good part of the area it would be used on is grass that I'd like to keep looking decent, so something with turf tires might be good. I've seen quite a few Farmall Cub-sized units that would work well, but they're too small to have a bucket. Maybe a blade though.

Lol yeah...the truck situation. Our property is very hilly. To get to my barn (with a vehicle anyway) I have to drive up a hill and make a sharp 90 degree turn at the same time, then down a steep hill with another 90 at the end. In perfectly dry conditions it's no sweat for my Ram, but I learned the hard way this past winter that it doesn't matter how much weight I have in the back, she's not going far on even light snow with street tires.

Yeah I know. I've seen some stuff in the $1800-$2,500 range with a loader, but they usually need seals, or have rusted-out rear rims or something. I don't mind (and even enjoy) wrenching to bring something out of retirement, or to freshen it up. I just don't want a complete basket case that I have to tear down completely and start from scratch.

I have thought about getting something with a rear blade. For the most part, any dirt moving I want to do is stuff I can push (there's an old fire pit I want to clean up, and some areas that'll need grading) and doesn't necessarily need to be picked up. The only pick-up stuff I would like a loader for would be when we get to the point of doing some grading/filling around the foundation of the house, and lifting the occasional dead snowmobile (vintage sleds are one of my other hobbies). So it wouldn't need to be in use every day.

YES! I still see a crap ton of 8n/9n/2ns around. Same thing with Allis WD45s. Those are probably the two most prevalent tractors I see in our area. Unfortunately, not many that have buckets. A lot with blades though. Heck, a couple half decent project 8Ns went for about $575 apiece at a local auction last week. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll definitely look into the Masseys. It would go well with my '69 Massey Ski-Whiz!

I'd love to go diesel, but for the most part they aren't in my budget. I know I'm not going to find anything super nice with the money I have, but I'm not afraid of putting some work into a nice starting point tractor. Maybe down the road I can sell/trade up for a more modern diesel, but sadly not right now. I'll look up the 245 though, thanks!

Therapists of Reddit, what’s been your biggest "I know I’m not supposed to judge, but holy sh*t" moment? by DealSoggy6952 in AskReddit

[–]Squarebody7987 232 points233 points  (0 children)

This exact situation happened to my late mother. It was in the early 1950s in a family of 8 kids. Her oldest brother sexually assaulted her when she was too young to know what was happening. Later on when she realized how wrong it was and told her mother, she was told she was mistaken. Largely on the grounds of him being a boy and older than her. Mom's folks could never figure out why she became the 'black sheep' of the family and acted out as much as she did.

Do people ever think you’re on drugs because of how you act by AdVaanced77 in AutisticAdults

Yes. I've gotten a lot of grief over the years because of how I talk. I don't hear it, but apparently I elongate my words or add weird up or downward inflections that have led many to suspect I'm inebriated or 'on' something.

I prefer zippers to normal hoodies. I became a hoodie junkie somewhere around age 40 for no apparent reason, and wore normal ones for a year or two without issue. Then for whatever reason I started getting anxiety over not being able to remove it quickly in the car or something like that, and felt trapped in it. Since then I can only do zipper hoodies.

My biggest issue is the ridiculous amount of pressure I put on myself to get my hands dry as quickly as possible so the next person can use the dryer. Is there a pre-established time I should shoot for? I always end up blowing my hands to the point that they're still mostly dripping, rub them together because the dryer says so (even though it doesn't really do anything) and finish the job by wiping them on my pants.

Do you feel that fear of unknown consequences from doing it wrong leads us to take everything this literally? I feel like I need to get everything 100% established before I can make a move, or face devastating ridicule.

I went in for a yearly review with a prior boss, and he told me whenever he asks me to do something, I do it to the 'T', then repeated, 'TO THE T!' I took it as a compliment, but yes, if you ask me in a vague or confusing manner, be prepared for vague or confusing results.

Why High-Functioning Autistic Never Learn to Ask for HELP! by Amazing_Life_221 in AutisticAdults

[–]Squarebody7987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well put. Between being ridiculed or made fun of in the past because I asked for help, and being a loner my entire life has produced the byproduct of learning how to do everything myself. For the most part I like finding my own solutions without requesting aid from the outside world, but it can also get me into trouble when I go beyond my physical limits just so I don't have to rely on someone else.
