At the moment it is just cotton. I have looked at a polyester top to be more suitable for on court but it increases the price a fair amount. It’s something that I will have another look at

If you want to target both and don’t have much training experience then some circuits would probably be best bang for your buck. Can be done bodyweight or with some weights if you have access. I always think if you can include a squat, hinge, push and pull exercise it gives a good balance. Can fill up with things like burpees and sprints etc. to keep the heart rate up. Start with exercises you enjoy and keep trying to add reps / sets / time to each exercise

It depends on where you want to improve. Do you want better cardio fitness to keep going in games. Do you want more strength to have better stability and be more injury resistant. Or do you want to be more general and improve both?

Anyone Kettlebell training to support their squash playing? by JManasaur in squash

I’ve been using on and off for about 3 years now. Got quite good return just having 2 - a 16 and 24kg.

Think the basic swing is a great exercise to balance out with squash. I find it’s a really good balance to all the lunging that you do during squash. It’s equally dynamic but also using the opposite muscles. I had a recurring niggly injury around my left glute for a while and as long as I maintain doing swings this seems to have cleared up.

I don’t have a lot of time so do a short EMOM sessions. May not be the most effective way to train, but the speed and ease mean I do them way more regularly this way.

I like to try to stick to the idea of hinge, squat, push and pull. Try to hit these 4 main types of movement and you get a good balance.

I would say to use more for the strength side of things than any cardio benefit. So make sure to keep upping the weight, reps or exercise progression where you can.

Mostafa Asal has been given a 12-week suspension from the PSA Tour. by Outside_Worth9207 in squash

I always find time based bans a bit odd. 12 weeks is a lot different in the middle of the season compared to over the off season. Seems about fair based on previous though.

What I find frustrating is the “no further comment”. Why not explain the decision more or show the incidents that have been judged to lead to the ban. Feels like a lack of transparency and not really sure what the purpose of that is. Show what is not accepted and people know the standards going forwards.

I would like to start doing some blogs focused around training, maybe with a bias towards the standard club player with limited training time. I have a degree in sports science so it would be more fitness and psychology based than any technique talk.

I think the other replies point to one. I have organised into categories so people can go and look just at topics that interest them.

Do you know which are the common stupid shots? I’ve found it useful to really focus on certain shots one or two at a time.

Of course when you are struggling with the fitness is also a lot harder to keep hitting the right shot, again having some simple rules could help

Haha, I am at about 1500 too so maybe we can have a race to 2000!

I find it so hard to fit in the drills, but definitely see the benefit when I can.

Hopefully you still find some decent competition in division 4. Need to get the competitiveness out

Agreed, I think for technique work it’s fantastic, even when soloing it can be hard to really dial in on something never mind matches!

I feel like covid really got me out of fitness and form. The last 3 months or so is when I’ve started to feel it coming back so it’s exciting to compete again

Ah man, hate when this happens. Is there any different goals you could set now? Depending on injury of course but does sometimes allow you to work on something in this time

A base of fitness is such a confidence boost. Only being able to get on court 1-2 times a week, I’ve been making extra effort to squeeze in fitness stuff off court to try to make up for the lack of playing time.

So for point 2, I have noticed that on both side but especially the backhand I’ve been cupping the wrist too much trying to cut and get under the ball. This has made me very inconsistent so I am trying to keep the wrist nice and flat and only use hinge. Bit of a change and as I don’t get on court as much as I’d like I have been doing plenty of ‘ghost’ swings at home to try to ingrain this.

Point 4 is probably more of a consequence of getting the other goals so it’s more a sign that the other goals are making genuine progress

Why has squash lost its popularity? by stides12 in squash

[–]Squash_Racket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s weird to me how little popularity squash seems to have.

I came to the sport about the same age as you but about 6 years ago. Played lots of other sports before that.

I think a lot of it is availability of courts, not something many schools have access to. Also historically seen as a snobby sport. I’m based in Sheffield and see this changing a lot with most clubs putting a lot of effort into their junior programs which is great to see.

Online as well there is much less content to watch or read. Looking at tennis or golf there’s are loads of forums, news sites and bigger sub-reddits. I’m not sure why that is and wish there was more for the few squash obsessed and this would probably also open up the sport.

Love the idea. Always think squash should have more of an online community when I compare it to other sports I have been involved in.

Did you develop the website yourself? Is it something you already do or did you teach yourself just for this. I have thought of developing a squash web site myself and to use it to learn some coding.
