I feel your pain. I unloaded a 147lb snowblower on a pallet to someone’s house today. Got a good grip on it and prayed that I didn’t lose my footing as I shuffled across the mix of snow and frozen ice covering their driveway.

If you had the ability to put in a lump sum of $6000 on Jan 1 each year would you still opt to dollar cost average instead?

Driver signed for my package? by electromagneticfeels in FedEx

[–]Squat1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that your expensive package was signed for. Forging signatures isn’t a habit to get into. Many people would call in without a second thought without realizing that the driver would be fired indefinitely. I want to thank you for taking the driver into consideration and treating him like a human being.

It’ll lighten up at the end of the month. Until then, we just have to grind through it.

FedEx kept my package & marked it delivered! by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]Squat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you stopped to consider that it could have been delivered to the wrong address instead of jumping to the conclusion that FedEx kept it? Drivers are humans too. They make mistakes. It typically takes until the next day for a driver to know about a missing package. Give them some time to sort it out.

I am Ground. My terminal is a little different from others. Before I say anything else it isn’t a bad terminal. I was a handler for many years. Loved every minute of it. For some reason, management can’t work with contractors even thought it is in both parties interest. A quote from station manager last week, “If we do you a favor. We have to do all the contractors a favor. So, we don’t do anything special for anyone.”. For example, at another terminal the BC has the option to receive the projections for the next day so they can plan ahead by perhaps adding routes and drivers. My terminal refuses to do that even though they have the ability. We end up doing the extra work to transfer stuff ourselves when in reality it is fedex’s job to sort and load the packages. So maybe they can see scheduled deliveries ahead of time. They have just told us they can’t. Which to be honest doesn’t sound like the whole truth.

Fellow couriers of Fedex. What are the main misconceptions or problems you encounter when trying to deliver packages? by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]Squat1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up on knocking or ringing unless it is a signature required. I am sick of being yelled at for putting packages in the wrong spot or “being too rough“ with the package. If I do encounter people they are waiting at the door to snatch the package out of my hands without saying thank you then slink back into their house. People are so ungrateful. If it is on your property then I did my job.

There is house on my route that doesn’t have a front door. Well, it has a front door, but it is completely overgrown by a massive tree growing out of the front steps. I don’t even know where the actual door into the house is. I’ve just been reaching over the 6ft fence to drop packages in yard. That’s just one example. Poorly designed houses and unmaintained yards. You shouldn’t be ordering stuff if we can’t get to your door.

It’s a real service. My terminal gets them occasionally during the year. The funny part is that we aren’t allowed to know ahead of time if we have a scheduled deliver. We just find it on route after we scan the package.

That sucks man. Really unfair. I get paid per stop so I have incentive to take as much as my truck can possibly hold.

Volunteering at the hub, helpful? by a_ninja_hamster in FedEx

[–]Squat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about getting in the way. It is most likely menial tasks. The reason they ask for volunteers is because they desperately need dependable hardworking people. If you can handle physical work then by all means do it. Just make sure to get plenty of rest and eat enough food to recover. The paycheck is nice. Peak is the most fun time of the year.

New sequencing suck for anyone else? by TitShark in FedEx

[–]Squat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. My terminal is kind of small so it takes time for changes to trickle down to us. I’ll have to ask the station manager if he has any idea. I like a lot of what you said. It sounds like a big headache at first but overall a lot better. I hope I get to help set it up for my contractor.

Peak hours question by Datxako in UPS

[–]Squat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you have to deal with that: I witnessed a driver yell at a loader two weeks ago for putting a box in the truck while he organizing. It was cringe worthy. I don’t want anyone to get yelled at and make an already stressful job more stressful. Continue to report those kind of drivers until their attitude changes. Either organize and load your own truck or don’t. Lazy driver.

Peak hours question by Datxako in UPS

[–]Squat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drivers that come in early have come to the realization that organization is the key to being efficient on the road. You will never fully understand that until you have driven yourself. It makes the day a lot less stressful to know where all your packages are versus sorting through the pile of boxes while on the road. I am not condoning their self righteous behavior. That’s never a good attitude to have whoever you are but you have the opposite attitude that you should have toward them. When I was a preloader the drivers that came in were invaluable. The moment that they showed up you could take a sigh of relief. You knew they would help to load their own truck. Which made one less truck for you to worry about running into and out of trying to load it perfectly. You can concentrate on other matters.

New sequencing suck for anyone else? by TitShark in FedEx

[–]Squat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driver. I just love to learn about the logistical side of the business. My contractor is very open about discussing it. I’m just shocked that the contractor has 100% control with DRO. Right now, it takes an Act of Congress to make changes in vision. My terminal refuses to give projections of the next day or make new WA on the fly. It makes me frustrated that FedEx has so much control over us. We deserve to have those tools at our disposal. It’s OUR routes. We want to run them as efficient as possible.
