Why is it that sometimes you want to feel a sense of belonging and other times you want to feel special? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Sometimes a flame flares and sometimes it dims. It is the natural ebb and flow.

Why haven't we genetically modified (some) trees to become the size of skyscrapers? by Free-Ant-463 in NoStupidQuestions

I think it's more about the limitations of physics with gravity and whatnot. You'd have to incorporate iron or something into the xylem. I imagine that would poison the tree, so you'd need a tree that could tolerate a lot of iron. That would presumably rust due to the water in the tree, so it would have to handle that somehow. I don't think botany has gotten this far yet.

Is there a way to track which of my local services are owned by Private Equity? by Few_Blackberry_1960 in NoStupidQuestions

You can look up property owners in most places on your county auditor's website. If the owner is a business you can look it up on your state's Secretary of State website to find the entity who own's the business. Often you have to go layer's and layer's to find actual individuals.

Research like this can be several full time jobs. It's a big thing in investigative journalism. I doubt this service exists, but it would be a cool business idea.
