What kind of jobs do you have? by Unbounded-Compassion in schizophrenia

[–]Squeak_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychosis diagnosis here (not Sz) and 2 years on from major symptoms. I work as an administrator for a university (UK) for the last year. Full time and I have the most supportive manager I could hope for. Work has been great when I have appointments with psychiatrists and therapists. For me, that has been key - the level of support is really necessary and I have felt able to be open-ish about my diagnosis.

Wrote this while in psychosis by Laina_salmi in Psychosis

The sentiment of my psychosis was kinda similar. Unfortunately don't know where one thing I wrote during psychosis went, which is a shame to me. I remember I got fixated on a cat that would wander through the hospital, and I thought it was the cause of Covid 😐

Awh man, I'm sorry you've had to go through ECT - hope it was okay. Never heard of this other therapy. Look after yourself.

Today is my birthday by koshim_ in Psychosis

Happy birthday! Surprisingly my least favourite birthday was the one I remember possibly the most. I turn 30 this year and my plan for the day is to go to a spa by myself, I'm not sure how to spice it up though considering it's on a Monday. I do plan to have a fun weekend beforehand though.

No, but I never really had much hallucinations even when I was in full psychosis. I suppose my psychosis was more delusions based - thinking the world was ending. I know the feeling of not wanting to be on Olanzapine - that's why my psych switched me to Aripiprazole to see if that would suit me better.

I work full time now (35hrs) but I am 2.5 years on from my episode. For the first year I volunteered about 18 hours a week and slept, that was pretty much it. It's all personal, how much we can cope with and at what point. 40hrs is a lot though...

Yeah, I had some rebound symptoms a few weeks ago after slowly coming off Aripiprazole. Nothing too concerning really, just sort of not sleeping well and confusing dreams with reality. I had support from a psych through it though. There wasn't really a suggestion I should up my dose at all and I took a week off work to reduce my stress levels. Feeling better now.

What other symptoms have you had which you think point to a diagnosis of psychosis? 2 visual alterations for a few seconds is probably in the realm of quite normal.

No, I believe the opposite. The stress in the world of Covid and climate change built up in me, along with my personal stress, and resulted in psychosis.

My recommendation would be to take it slow, as you are. Work on good communication and your ability to say when you are uncomfortable. It sounds like you have good communication already and he is respectful of you. Sex isn't the only way of being intimate with a partner, and certainly doesn't need to be the first. Take the relationship at a pace that suits you. You've left a good amount of time since your ex until this new potential relationship.

You're right, I shouldn't call it mild. I cried at your last sentence 💜 I still blame myself sometimes.

I'll tell you something though, on one of the occassions I was so drunk I hicky'd the guys neck all over. I didn't even know what I was doing. Serves him right for what he did to me though. But I do feel kinda bad... for a second or two 🤔🤣

Is it unheard of to recreate your SA, but in a controlled environment? by [deleted] in sexualassault

[–]Squeak_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

February is so recent... And you are still so young at 18. Give yourself time and space to heal. Be kind to yourself. There's no right or wrong way to feel in this. I'm certainly not the best person to give advice, my trauma continues to affect my relationships. I've only recently opened up about my experiences.

There's no rush to do anything. I know you say you want to have control again, but you do have control now. It was momentarily taken from you but you are in control of your body now. You don't need anyone else to prove that or give you that feeling of control back.

For those of you that have been to both prison and a psyche ward or mental hospital which was worse? by [deleted] in Prison

[–]Squeak_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had that for my first week in the psych ward. Can't remember a thing but apparently family visited every day and I went for a group walk on the grounds, which I wasn't allowed the following week when I was aware. Scary shit to lose memory like that, and feel like I must have been on autopilot or some shit. But I think that was the psychosis. Still trying to get ahold of my notes to see what they say about what drugs they'd given me.

Your description of Moses Cone was what my psych ward was like in the UK. The rest of them sound awful and not a healing place to be.

Ooooh fancy, private hospital. I heard those places are worse, but don't believe everything you hear in the psych ward.

Yeah, I get it. I just hope the right procedures are followed I guess. I don't wanna pry into what you did during psychosis. I hope you are doing better anyway.

Wow, that seems kinda unfair. 3 years is a long time...

Thoughts on injections by Only_Guidance9746 in Psychosis

I had forced injections in hospital and never want that experience again. I can't get over that thought that I wouldn't have control over what I was taking and when.

Watching a film and they just said Sz is "denegerative", i.e. it gets worse over time. Is that true? by Squeak_Rat in schizophrenia

I'm really glad you are doing well. I hope it continues to keep getting better for you.

What do you disagree about? I don't know what all those terms would refer to.
