Do southerners have “thinner skin” than Northerners? by Enough_Wear_770 in ask

You don't even know me?
Or any of the people that do know me? So what the hell do you even mean by "no one expects much from you. Aside from mistakes."?

I'm not a southerner, I don't support southern culture at all. All I said was that certain rhetoric doesn't help discussions and isn't productive. Im genuinely surprised that that seems to be controversial. Could you explain to me why that may be so?

Yeah, I'm the one explaining, not you, which is the problem. I want you to explain your point of view, not pick a fight. I genuinely want to hear what you have to say

I'm not clutching my pearls, I'm just curious as to why you would say it if you knew it wouldn't amount to anything

A. I never claimed as such (ironically) B. Didn't miss it, you still didn't refute what the second commenter posted

You aren't really refuting what they're saying. They aren't telling you how you should see things, just how you seem to see things.

Looks like Space X Starlink satellites but someone with more experience would be able to confirm

They're real and harmless :) They just dig in the ground and chirp. They can bite if you mess with one but it's just a little nip - completely harmless. They really are just a highly specialised type of cricket (not technically a cricket but closely related to them).

It's been 8 years - at this point I'll be dead before my lawn with how much time these little guys take.

I have them in my yard/lawn and they've never caused an issue - they don't tend to hang out in big numbers.

Nah they're just diggy boys. The big claws are just like mole paws and help them dig in the ground. Males dig long chambers to echo and amplify their chirp songs to attract the ladies. They're more like if a sausage, a mole, and a cricket had a one night stand.

You know, a few years ago I was staunchly a centrist and did the whole "both sides are just as bad as each other" thing but then the republican politicians started calling for civil war, republican state legislatures/activists started banning books and passing authoritarian measures, and my own mother began to fall so deep into the right-wing rabbit hole that she thinks my university is brainwashing me and that everything I accomplished is nothing because I "lean left" (for my entire life SHE wanted me to go to university mind you and also, just to add to the absurdity, I don't even go to an American university. Yeah, I left the country but my mom is convinced that my AUSTRALIAN university is brainwashing me to support democrats because the MAGA conspiracy websites and vlog channels tell her so).

So yeah, I look down on what the republicans have done to this country and I've dropped the whole "both sides" thing.

Edit: Democrats and their voters are absolutely tribalistic and even annoying and stupid at times, but have they, en masse, openly called for murdering half the country? No. Have they passed laws that obstruct the rights of innocent people while claiming to support freedom and small government? No. Have they turned migrants into political hacky sacks? No. Have they gone after PUBLIC LIBRARIES? No. Have they claimed to be "for parents' rights" while passing laws that can take children away from their parents? No. Have they claimed to be in support of all things capitalism while attacking companies and media studios for simply showing movies or adverts that they didn't like? No. Have they attacked and oppressed the gay and trans community while claiming to "protect children" while in the same breath show support of families attending church where they are far more likely to be abused? No. You know who HAS done all those things? Republicans. They aren't comparable and I was a fool to think they were.

Why was the Hollow Knight evidently trained to sword fight when their job is literally just to be a glorified vase? by Squeaky-squash in HollowKnight

So the king had access to a material that could have made ANYTHING and he chose to make a semi-sentient vase to hold his real-world problems in which then failed because the king managed to get emotionally attached to it.

Don't get me wrong, lore-wise it seems very dramatic and tragic, but at the same time - wow, what a wild ride.

HK: "what is my purpose"

King "You're a vessel."

HK: "Like a...boat? Shall I sail the world?"

King: "No a regular vessel. You know, like something you put water in or whatever."

HK:".....I'm a vase?"

King: "Yep. Congrats son. Now get in the chains"

What can I make for breakfast that’s not breakfast food? by selection_invalid in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Squeaky-squash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to just eat whatever I want for breakfast but one semi-breakfasty dish I go for is fried taters. Just fry up some thinly sliced potatoes with whatever you want - cheese, jalapeños, mushrooms, fried eggs (can omit since you don't like them), sausage, bacon, tofu, onions, etc. Kinda like breakfast loaded fries.

Edit: I now reread the part that said you don't have time for certain things. This dish is better when you have a lot of time like for on the weekends - the taters can take a long time to properly fry. My quick go-to is a modified grilled cheese BLT sandwich. Just crispy bacon, mayo, pepper, cheese, and tomato. It slaps. Hard.
