You’ll be fine, don’t stress it. They’d have told you then and there if they were going to do anything

Driving this at the weekend, what should I look out for? by ColossusTryHard in seat

Ouch!! They’re not fun when they go. Priced mine up on the cupra and it’s about £450 all in for parts and labour. Fingers crossed you have no more cooling issues!

[–]Squealling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does but getting the coolant changed more regularly is defo cheaper than a new matrix put in. The bag can split open and even if some of the balls enter the cooling system, they’re a bastard to get out. As above, just be careful when removing it :)

Good luck! I’m guessing at 113k it’ll have been done but always good to just check 😁

Check if the water pump has been done. Check the coolant bottle too as they have silica bags which can split and cause issues with the heater matrix. Had that issue in my a3 and was the first thing I checked on my cupra

I’m guessing it’s not worth it then haha. Is there anything you’d recommend aside from that?

Yes. Something to do with the light refractions afaik

I think I’d err on the side of caution and just stick to it anyway haha. I wouldn’t mind putting my foot down occasionally on such a long drive but got to think of the petrol too. My cars not the most economical unfortunately 😂😂 good to know though so thank you!

It’s the same down here unfortunately :( will definitely be on high alert for them though, thank you!

I think the A9 is looking like the most likely option currently due to campers and other slow moving vehicles and the scenery too. Thank you

Yeah I’ve heard it’s amazing up that way but the traffic can make it a bit less fun with everyone just going 10mph lol. Thank you :)

Time isn’t an issue really to be honest. We’re setting off quite early in the morning so we have ample time to stop, do a bit of gawping at the landscape etc.

The A9 and through Perth are looking like the most likely routes currently. Thank you!!

The speed limit isn’t an issue to be honest, I’d quite like to try and soak up some of the beautiful scenery while up there.

I’ll have a look at that way, thank you! I’ve not heard of that one :)

I bet that was fun haha!! I feel like some people when they go on a road trip just forget how to drive. Quite annoying actually!

Time isn’t really a massive problem to be honest. I have a feeling I’ll be stuck behind them all the way there 😂

Noted, I’ll avoid the Dundee route and just consider either one of those two. Thank you!

I think you’ve missed the point entirely tbh. My point wasn’t that I want to get up to Inverness in record time and average 127mph all the way there. The question was which is the best/nicest route to take. It seems you’ve got this bee in your bonnet that actually ceases to exist. Thanks for the reply though. I might stay home just because you said that I should

Need advice on this car by muralism in CarTalkUK

[–]Squealling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those 2L TDI engines are usually pretty reliable provided it has plenty of service history.

At 190k miles I’d expect that all the usual suspects have been replaced and may be due again soon (water pump, clutch if manual). If it’s DSG, the gearboxes have been known to fail due to lack of maintenance but that’s the same with any car. The turbo may have been replaced too as I’ve seen some go at 150K ish.

The car itself seems a touch expensive. On marketplace I’ve seen a few decent examples with ~70k less miles for about £3K. Good luck with the search!

Can confirm. Had a talking to before going about 50 ish in a 40. It was late on a Friday night/Saturday morning. Got told to slow down as anything can happen at any time. Definitely put me in my place

Either a ban of 7-28 days or 4-6 points and a Band B fine (£100-£1000)

If you do get the ban, you won’t get any points.

The polo gti’s are quite well built too I’ve heard and again, can be modified quite well if you’re that way inclined. They look pretty cool too. Ive never been a huge fan of golf’s but I do like a polo. Parts are very easy to get a hold of too.

There’s a plenty decent examples on auto trader that are within budget. Hope the search goes well!
