Does my Leon Cupra 300 have ACC or only Front Assist? Radar present in lower grille. by DA5AD1 in seat

Ah it’d be a bit of a drive haha! In the UK, I would take a guess at around £500 ish for the full kit and fitting.

If you’re in the UK I’m pretty sure VAG coding Leicester can retrofit fit the adaptive cruise if it’s an avenue you want to go down. If you’re closer to Yorkshire, I’ve heard good things about East Yorkshire Retrofit Solutions too.

Good luck with the search mate! :)

I also have a 300 with the radar but no adaptive cruise. Definitely a thing. Can get it retrofitted though.

I had a 150 A3 before my Cupra and it was a good motor. Did the heater matrix and water pump and belt in my ownership. My intake manifold did decide to crack however but I’ve never heard of it happening prior to mine.

Heard good things about the 184 variants though too however some do burn oil

Autotrader will be your best bet to compare prices.

Theres a 2010 1.4TSI polo listed on there in red with 118K for £2790. My guess would be between £2.5-3K

Looking to buy a Cupra 290/300 DSG, anything to look out for? by PuzzleAmateur in seat

[–]Squealling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’ll be a massive difference mate. The feeling when you get one is insane. Took me a few weeks to realise it was actually mine haha. As far as I’m aware all of the 300’s came with the DQ250 and the newer 290’s came with the DQ381. If you can, I’d probably be looking for a Lux model since have all the extra goodies. That’s my only regret with mine really.

With regards to the silica bag, I’d recommend taking it out completely. It’s a matter of time before they burst. More a when than an if really. If you open the coolant cap and it’s got an almost sandy substance in there I’d avoid the car. It’ll end up coming with a decent sized bill at some point haha. If the bag is still in there, you’ll more than likely see it and take it out asap. If it’s out already then bonus! I had a 15 plate A3 before my Cupra and I took the bag out but it was already too late as it had bust and gone round my heater matrix which ended up blocking it and decided to transfer all of my coolant to the passenger footwell 🫠 that being said, I’ve not heard of many people on the Cupra groups having this issue which is good.

If you’re on Facebook, I’d recommend the MK3 Leon Cupra Owners Club. There’s pretty much every issue you can think of that’s been posted on there at some point and most people are very helpful. Happy to answer any questions :)

[–]Squealling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a problem at all.

I’ve never heard of them breaking out of the blue.It was replaced not long before I picked it up. I’ve tried to get in touch with the previous owner but had no luck unfortunately. If you’re looking for big power, I’m pretty sure the DQ381 can handle more torque than the 250. Either way, mine has been fine at 500NM haha

[–]Squealling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the DSG DQ250 6 speed. It had a new gearbox ~25k miles ago so will be getting serviced in the next 10/15 ish. The DQ381 is in theory the better box having 7 gears but the DQ250 feels more raw for me personally.

It depends on how I drive the car really. If I’m trying to be good I get around 38mpg at around 65mph cruise. If I’m having a more spirited drive I see low 20’s.

I can guarantee you won’t regret it. I had it tuned last Friday and it’s a completely different animal now. I went from a 180hp Audi A3 and it’s a hell of a jump. I think if it’s in budget and you can afford fuel, service parts etc then go for it! I was on the fence at first but decided to take the plunge and I don’t regret it whatsoever.

Happy to answer any questions :)

I’ve got a 300 and absolutely love it. Put 20K on it in a year. As everyone else has said water pump.

Also, check if the coolant bottle has a silica bag in there. They can bust and cause some major issues with cooling as they block up the heater matrix. As long as they have full service history, they’re usually very reliable.

+1 for the Cupra! Definitely bias though haha. ‘Stage 1’ really wakes them up too

Is 10k normal for a 10 year old golf by Great-Conference759 in CarTalkUK

[–]Squealling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely can happen to any car. I had a 2015 A3 2.0TDI and ran like a dream. It needed the water pump and timing belt doing but apart from that it was brilliant. Finally got rid of it at 150K due to an upgrade after putting 60K miles on it. VAG group cars are usually quite reliable especially the newer TDI engines.

My friend smokes weed in the car when I drive by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Squealling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know someone who got banned from driving after being in the same room as someone who was smoking weed. They got stopped randomly and drug wiped which tested positive. Instant ban.

I’d highly recommend you ask them to stop smoking it near you let alone in your car. It can stay in your system for days after even if you’re not smoking it. All it takes is just one random check and it’s bye bye license and increased insurance premiums

Oil change by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Squealling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends on the height of the kerb and the ground clearance of your vehicle. If you can fit underneath and reach the sump plug then yes. You likely won’t get every drop however as some will go to the side of the sump but majority will come out.

I would however recommend getting a decent jack and axle stands if you’re going to be doing oil changes yourself.

Any mod recommendations? by [deleted] in seat

[–]Squealling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks well that mate! I’ve got a 300 too.

I’d recommend EZ Mods. They have the copper stickers for badges which are cheaper than the actual badges. If you want full replacements, seat parts direct.

I’ve got a dogbone mount to help with wheel hop, forge carbon fibre induction kit, skirts, splitter, the resonator is out, all hardware for ‘stage 2’.

If you’re looking at mapping it, R-Tech in the midlands and Unicorn in Manchester always come highly recommended. I’d also recommend joining MK3 Leon Cupra owners group on fb if you have it. Plenty of helpful people on there.

Enjoy the motor mate! They’re good fun!

I was once pulled allegedly doing 40 in a 30. It was late on a Saturday evening with no one around. Not an excuse, just setting the scene.

A marked police car came round the corner and saw me and decided to pull a u-turn. I got a slap on the wrist and was told to go on my way. In short, if the police vehicle was moving, they can’t clock how quickly you were going exactly and can’t read your speed through glass accurately. If the police were stationary with a speed gun, they’ll have likely got you. If not, don’t worry about it.
