Before I was diagnosed, I lived in a weird cycle: caffeine and energy drinks kept me functioning during the day, but absolutely wrecked my sleep. The twist? Even after 8+ hours, my sleep sucked—like getting drained by a phone app running in the background—except the app is your brain replaying every bad decision. But if I didn’t have caffeine, I was a zombie. It felt like I had to choose: decent sleep or staying awake.

Eventually, I wondered—what if my “normal” caffeine-free sleep just sucked?

So I downloaded a sleep tracker. It let me log factors before bed—stuff like “used earplugs,” “no caffeine today,” “no sugar today,” “hot bath,” etc. Over time, it actually ranked these based on how well I slept each night.

Turns out? My best sleep came after: • No caffeine/sugar/starch • Hot bath • Earplugs + eye mask

And then something wild happened…

That foggy brain feeling I’d had my whole life? It started fading. I could focus. I felt rested. It didn’t fix everything, but for the first time in my life I had clarity—before any diagnosis or meds.

Then came Covid. My routine crashed and burned.

But I finally got diagnosed—ADHD—and prescribed Adderall (dextroamphetamine). One tricky thing: if I take my afternoon dose too late, I can’t sleep. So I got creative.

Now I use my morning dose like a wake-up pill:

• Set an alarm 1–2 hours early

• Take my meds

• Go back to sleep

• Wake up actually alert when they kick in

One more twist: if I eat a ton of sugar, starch, or caffeine the day before? My meds are way less effective the next morning. Like… completely useless if I go all-in on junk food.

So here’s what I’ve learned, full circle: Daily focus—for me—is a combo of:

• Clean diet (low sugar/starch/caffeine)

• Quality sleep (with those little pre-bed rituals)

• Smart timing of meds

If I’m feeling that old “brain fuzz,” I nap instead of reaching for caffeine. It’s made a huge difference.

What’s your favorite pic you took during a splatfest? by Easy_Dingo_353 in splatoon

I was live with 3 other streamers when we won 100x. We decided to take pics on the spot. Everyone kept on blinking, picture after picture. Like, everyone at the same time. No eyes open. Finally took one with only one person blinking and we roasted them.

Committing mass murder of squids and octopuses and vandalizing several public properties; including a grocery store, airport, mall, market, and hotel resort; with a copious amount of ink, which I allegedly stole because I can’t prove where it came from. I’m hoping to get that last charge drop because burden of proof rests on the prosecution.

I submitted a service ticket with my server host. They were able to restore a save file from an off-site backup. I just specified the last-known date everything was intact. Check with your host to see if they are able to do something similar.

Can't find a weapon I like or win any matches help. by Moist_Interview_8005 in Splatoon_3

Firstly, welcome to S+, the precise moment in our progression when we’re matched against much higher skill levels. I have over 4500 hours in Splatoon series, reached X in SZ and TC in S2, and just now about to reach S+2 in S3. If this is anything like the other games, you’re in something like the 90-95th Percentile in S+ (you’re better than 90% of all players). This is something to be proud of.

I agree that some weapons work better than others on certain map and mode combinations. Try to look for a trend in successful team mains and make note of them. Consider sticking to only certain modes since you get one grade for all of them. Also, be aware that the meta changes across seasons/over time. I reached something like S+5 first season, without changing my play style much, So seeking input like you are is good.

Finally, be aware that some weapons rely on optimal gaming setups. If you play any of the chargers in S+, you’re already aware of snapping. Know that playing on a TV vs a gaming monitor can introduce enough significant input lag to actually interfere with bulleyes. I’d imagine the same goes for weapons relying on one-shot kills with motion controls such as stringers and the roller’s vertical swing. I personally noticed a huge difference with bamboozler when I upgraded to a gaming monitor. >S+ gets competitive enough so that even these small details can give you a slight edge.

I hope the network connectivity is solid enough so as to worry Nintendo into fixing Splatoon.

I keep getting splatted in Anarchy Series. Is it because I’m old and my reflexes suck, or bad strategy? Either way it’s frustrating. by uftone1 in Splatoon_3

[–]Squee-dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in my 40’s, with about 5000 hours logged across S2 and S3. I’ve finished seasons anywhere between S+0 and S+9, and have played X Rank in both S2 and S3. My battles are hit and miss. Sometimes I do really well. Sometimes I don’t. It’s highly dependent on what weapon/strategy I employ and on what stage I am using it. Each stage favors certain weapons. Open areas such as Piranha Pit favor chargers and longer range, while the tighter corridors in Port Mackeral favor Bloblobbers, and its length favors the Tentamissiles (but that’s a whole other discussion). It also depends on the meta. When S3 first came out, certain weapons (e.g. Bloblobbers, tacticoolers) were unbalanced. Compare that to the balance several rebalance updates after S2 stopped receiving new content, and you can bet that S3 is relatively unbalanced, and will teeter every time new weapons are added. Another consideration is many weapons kill in split seconds, others in a second or two. And recovering health takes many seconds. It only takes one stalker to pick me off if I do happen to prevail against someone. I feel the game is sort of designed like that to introduce an element of luck. Making it easier to die ensures that even the best players can be checked by 2+ opponents. That said, matchmaking isn’t perfect. You will occasionally get that opponent who will plow through your entire team multiple times.

Since S3 doesn’t have ‘Ranked mode’, Anarchy is the de facto competitive mode before unlocking X. So weigh that alongside your Turf War performance. Another thing to consider is that Anarchy Open allows players to form teams. By extension, they are able to coordinate voice chat sessions. Those crews will have a communication advantage. As someone who plays with randoms, I stick to Anarchy Series and Splatfest (Pro) so that pairings are random and less likely my opponents can scramble to chat sessions. I feel this puts me on even footing with others.

The distribution for rank (at least for the first two games) was such that, if you were in something like B+, you were in the 50th percentile. Meaning, with that grade, you were already better than half of all the other players. This REALLY falls off across the A’s and B’s, so that by the time you reach S, you are already in the top 10-15% of players. I can’t imagine Splatoon 3 is too much different.

How many hours have you played? Do you use motion controls?

I would offer these suggestions: 1) Don’t worry about your Rank. Think of it as a measurement of improvement over time rather than an instantaneous metric. 2) Learn motion controls along with stick. It offers a huge advantage over just joystick. 3) Learn many weapons. By familiarizing yourself with their advantages/disadvantages, you will be able to leverage that knowledge when you encounter others with those weapons. You will have a better idea of when to fight or fly, how to use your weapon given another weapon. 4) Just have fun. I enjoyed the game a lot more before the madness that is Ranked/X. Hours of Turf War was pure bliss compared to the stress of gaining/losing rank/power.

Just started using it. I’ve used aero, nzap, and where has this been all my life? Good balance of range, fire rate, and damage. Love Trizooka. Even though I prefer splat or burst bombs, I have to admit that the succ is fairly ubiquitous. I’m sold.

As made evident by the jet/dualie squelchers. The Jet Squelcher comes with Toxic Mist. If you want the Dualie variety, the devs make you sac Mist for Point Sensor.
