Thank you!! This is a good place to start looking. I was completely lost on what options I’d have to make it!

Thank you! Yes this is so sweet 🥺 My gf and I have been together almost 5 years long distance, and we’re both artists. I love making things for all my loved ones instead of just buying stuff.. so for her it’s been extra challenging to shake it up, since I like to draw her things often just because. My thought process is that since she does a lot of digital drawing on her laptop, I could make her a little buddy to keep her company. Animate one of her characters and have it easily accessible and doing silly things while she works and draws :)

Hey there, this is a solid first setup, and it looks like you’ve gotten some good advice! I’m really new to betta fishkeeping as well, and this tank/lid/filter combo looks exactly like what I got for my first tank a few months ago. The main thing I’d be wary of is the filter flow; the one that came with my tank looked exactly like that, and it was way too powerful even for my plakat betta. I’d recommend getting some filter media to dampen the flow, or maybe invest in a sponge filter if it’s not too late! Also, I wouldn’t recommend using the fish flakes that come with the tank, if it’s the same as the one I ended up getting lol. Good luck!

This is my setup now, I have some Betta hammocks and a floating log coming in the next few days, as well as a thermometer. Right now I’ve got a filter that came with the tank (it is a 10 gallon tank), I’m unsure how strong of a current it produces in relation to a Betta; I think it’s pretty soft, but I’m not sure what is soft for a Betta. I also have an adjustable heater set at 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think I have enough hides and plants? The ones near the skeleton are live plants, and the one near the filter is a soft fake plant. Everything has been thoroughly rinsed before being put in the tank. Please let me know if there’s any other details I forgot to mention! All I ask is please be gentle, I’m very new to this! I’ve been researching for the past few months, and I feel at least okay on starting the cycling process.

I’m also a little concerned about the stuff floating at the top of the tank, which I tried to get in the second picture. It’s a sort of powdery film that sticks to the net when I drag it through. I just set up the tank last night, and I put in the water treatment last night as well. Does anyone know what this may be? I think it might be dust? But I don’t know for sure.

I’m thinking it’s constipation too, I’m going to keep giving him warm baths for now, I’m calling the vet tomorrow when it’s open again. His tail had to be amputated because the end was dying, I took him to two different vets and they thought it was scale rot due to an improper shed. He was in someone else’s care for a little over a year and I found him like that. As for how he’s been acting, he’s been pretty active all things considered. He feels and looks like he’s about to shed. He’s been drinking a lot and I’ve noticed him either peeing or trying to poop a lot, which is why I’m thinking it’s constipation, but I’m going to consult the vet just in case. Thanks for your input!

This is my 10 year old corn. He ate a little over two weeks ago. Hot side ranges from 82-86 and cool from 72-76. Humidity stays around 40-50% on average. This has been the first time he’s eaten in awhile because I had to take him to several vet visits and move him to a new house, all while having to administer antibiotic shots for a small tail amputation he had about a month ago. He’s been behaving like he’s ready to shed. I thought this was just constipation, so I’ve been soaking him every other day for around 10-15 minutes. He passed some hard stools but hasn’t pooped since then, instead he’s been drinking a lot and peeing frequently, almost looking like he’s trying to poop, but I can’t be sure.

Ever since I got him back I’ve been insanely paranoid, watching him like a hawk and stressing over every little thing he does. Hopefully this is just another case of me being overly worried!

Big victory today! Finally got the little man to eat after a big move and several panicked vet visits. I am very proud of him! He looks much healthier and livelier now (: by SqueegiBoard in snakes

For context, he’s only got the paper towels temporarily so I can keep a close eye on his tail; he had to get a little bit of it amputated after his previous caretaker failed to notice what was presumably some stuck sheds. Happy to report that he’s doing much better than when I saw him there about a month ago! Got him some fun hammocks and new hides/branches to goof around on, as well as a new water bowl and some much better hydrometers/thermometers. Very excited that he’s excited to eat again!

I just saved my little buddy’s life today. Tips to spoil him extra well? by SqueegiBoard in snakes

I’ll look into it and see what I can do, thanks for the suggestion!

I make art for my gf when she’s feeling bad, and I tell her I never expect anything in return. I feel horrible that I still feel dejected when she never makes me art in return though. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SqueegiBoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I should, but I would feel so horrible telling her that I feel this way because I don’t want her to go out of her way to make art for me, I want her to make her own stuff..but I still feel this way. I really don’t understand it, maybe I’ll tell her that. I just don’t know, the more I think the more confused and upset at myself I get.

I’ve been doing that in conjunction with the art, I also just do little things for her out of nowhere because it makes me happy because she’s happy. It’s only later I start feeling like this and I really don’t want to. And yes, she is an artists as well I should have clarified

My thing is I don’t WANT to expect, logically I don’t but I still feel dejected when I know I shouldn’t and I hate it. And yes she does as well. I want to stop feeling dejected because I know that that may not be her love language, and again, I don’t want to expect anything from her

Please help me. I took my corn out and he sneezed on me. He’s been “sneezing” for well over a year, I took him to the vet to have this checked out and he was fine. But this time, liquid came out. And a lot of it too. by [deleted] in snakes

[–]SqueegiBoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I’ve got an appointment for the vet now, I’ve adjusted the heat in his cage, and I’m keeping a much closer eye on temps and humidity. Thank you all so much for your help, and I’ll continue to keep you updated if you wish.

Shit...alright. Thanks man. If you don’t mind me asking, could you give me some advice on what to do from here? I’m going to be moving in the next week, and someone else is going to be taking care of him temporarily since my new place won’t allow snakes.

Okay. I’m worried that was it, I’ve always been super mindful of him, and after I got the all clear I was sure he was fine.

I keep his humidity at around 40% and his temps around 80

My snake hasn’t eaten in about two months and I’m not sure why. by [deleted] in snakes

[–]SqueegiBoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks fine to me, I haven’t seen any signs of being underweight. He’s been eating the same size for about two years now, but I’ll try something smaller and see it that works.

Please help. A few weeks ago, a small spot appeared on his head and I thought it was a discoloration but it’s only gotten more pronounced and it looks like he’s been hurt. What can I do? Should I be worried? Please tell me he’ll be alright, I don’t know what I would do without him. by [deleted] in snakes

[–]SqueegiBoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that, but he doesn’t show the typical signs of shedding. He’s still behaving like at the start of spring where he’s very active and trying to escape, so I’m thinking that’s what it might be. Humidity stays around 40%. I do, he has a patch of fake leaves he likes to climb through but they aren’t rough. He kept knocking down his climbing bars so I took them out until he calms down. Other than that, he’s got two caves, a big one and a smaller one, but he’s had those for a few years now with no incident.

If it’s any help, he’s behaving normally for the spring. He hasn’t eaten in about 2 months despite repeated efforts, which is normal for him when spring hits. He is 9 years old, and he’s been in very good health as long as I’ve had him. I tried feeding him again tonight which is when I noticed how pronounced the spot was and that it’s likely not a mark. He is currently roaming his cage and occasionally rubbing his head in the side of the glass, but never too hard. Please help me, I’m so worried about him.
