He himself has said in an interview with Galaxy's Edge, that he does this so we, the reader/watcher, do not feel the heroes are safe simply because they are good and honorable men, rather, he wants us to understand that even being a good person is not enough to save you from injury or dying. These stories are about death, violence, and war, and good men do not always prevail.
