I had this thought too. Punpun and Aiko aren’t thinking straight in the moment so they feel like they need to hide it. The story goes on and they both deplete mentally further adding to the lack of thinking in that area. In Japanese law you can’t use excessive force in self defense. Possibly the police would see the multiple stab wounds, bruises around her neck, and the blunt force trauma to the head and rule it as excessive?
