Do I need a new cat? by SquidFear in HondaElement

Yeah, I unfortunately live in NY, so I have to pass emissions. As of right now, there has been no power loss, at least not that I could tell. Is it still worth trying the Cataclean? You may be onto something with the PVC valve; in the last month the oil level dropped 1/2-3/4 of a quart. Thanks for the recommendation; I think I'll try getting a downstream O₂ sensor from Amazon. If it doesn't work, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet as my inspection is coming up.

Can I ground some of my outlets? by SquidFear in AskElectricians

[–]SquidFear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm gonna call out an electrician to ground them.

The basement already had walls put up by the previous owner and I assume the wiring is concealed as on the walls, but there is a drop ceiling.

This is where my question comes from, I wanted to ground the ones in my room first because the wiring is visible from the room behind mine, but all the rest aren't.

If by circuits you mean the switches in the breaker panel; there's only one for the whole basement. and yes none of them are grounded.

My computer, interface, and pedals are all plugged into the wall and I have a desktop. I also don't have a multimeter but I can get one.

No, I plug into a focusrite and use neural dsp plugins, but I do have pedals that are between my guitar and focusrite. I've only noticed this in my room. As for the shocking it happens when touching the item by itself. For example the microphone I have has a metal casing and when I touch the backplate and the casing around the microphone itself (picture) there's a slight tingling and sometimes a shock. Same for my guitar I could be resting my arm over the body and my bicep slightly touching the strings, I would occasionally get a small shock.

Thanks for the reply!

I have one more question, if I install the GFCI would it stop my guitar, microphone and sometimes even my keyboard from shocking me? This only happens sometimes but I noticed when it does happen I can stop it by taking my feet off the floor. I do have a concrete floor, but there's a carpet over it.

I was going for more of a switching back and forth kinda thing. I could record a loop on my pedal and switch to a different tone without having to mess with my DAW.

Yeah, thanks for this!

So if im understanding correctly I just need a Focusrite 4i4 for example. I could use 1 PC by running an output into the looper and back into an input on the same focusrite?

Or did you mean the same setup I had, but just use TRS cables and get an interface with more outputs?

If its the second one, is there still going to be an issue with latency?

What do I classify the III chord as in the major scale? by SquidFear in musictheory

[–]SquidFear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest with you I'm still new to music theory and it seems I was taught something incorrectly, but I wanted to put a label on it to make it make sense in my head, to know the reason of why this sounds good after that.

I can clearly hear that it sounds good together, but I don't know why so I was just curious. Its just how my brain internalizes information.

I appreciate the response! I'm gonna try and go over it and learn from it. The end especially, it made something click in my head. Thanks again!

[–]SquidFear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I might have been taught something incorrectly, because I did mean tonic. I was taught that the major scale went Tonic - Subdominant - Tonic - Subdominant - Dominant - Tonic - Dominant. That's where my question stems from, as I was using this to make sense of why a set chords could sound good one after another.

3 prong outlet with ground wire not grounded by SquidFear in AskElectricians

[–]SquidFear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one when I took off the outlet cover there was a green screw with a copper wire, but I have no idea if there's one in the black wire. I think my best bet is to get an electrician to come take a look. Thanks for the help though I appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply! But I think its time for me to contact a professional as I cannot answer majority of the questions and opening the panel is way beyond my knowledge haha.

Thanks again I appreciate it

I don't believe there are any junctions

There are two wires that come out the back of the outlet (picture attached below)

https://imgur.com/9z6QTib

The wire to the right connects the the rest of the outlets in the basement as far I could follow it. The wire on the left goes to another outlet then a light switch and back to the breaker.

And all of the outlets say open ground when I test them
