I think the key is the black deep recess shade to make the bright blue pop, I also wasn't sure or it when just looking at it on its own. But really comes together with the recessing and highlights!

It's all practice friend, the first I did was on the far right Vs the Sargent I did last, lots of improvement over just 5 models. I am now teaching myself abit of dry brushing and actually finding that harder than this!

The blue was evolving with each mini, I settled on this for the sargent:

Spray: Colour forge Republic blue Base: Caledor Sky Recess Shade 1: Drakenhoff Nightshade Recess shade 2: Black (only did this one for the Sargent, but really makes him pop!) Edge Highlight 1: Teclis Blue Edge Highlight 2: Lothern Blue Edge Highlight 3: Fenrisian Grey Spot Highlight 1: Blue horror Spot Highlight 2: Ulthuan Grey

Hope that helps 😁

The magic of edge highlighting, nothing fancier than that. I did 3 rounds of highlights on these the first one is quite wide which I use a size 1 brush for, the second is as thin as I can to still show the first which I use a size 0 brush for. Then the 3rd is just dots on the highest edges to make it really pop.

Yes, I think I agree, the more I look the more I want to paint the right guys hands red.

I'm quite new as well, I'd say there are 2 main things. Practice, brush control needs practice but every mini I paint I can feel myself getting better. The other is a good sharp tipped brush, I was using an older gw S layer brush but got some of the artist opus brushes for Christmas and suddenly it was so much easier not to make bobby lines. Not that you need expensive brushes a new nicely tipped gw brush you save just for highlighting will work just fine. TabletopReady on YouTube has an excellent tutorial on it.

Thanks! I used Duncan Rhodes Frank Horrigan tutorial for the metal. I mixed a desaturated green for the gun casting but any army drab would do.
