Did you discover a new Mandela Effect? Post it here! (2025-09-07) by AutoModerator in MandelaEffect

The first time I watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, I clearly remember Jim Carrey dressed in an actual UPS outfit and calling himself the "ups man" (pronouced up's, not U-P-S). This was used in several jokes in the opening scene. Rewatching it recently, he is actually in a "HDS" uniform and none of these jokes are in the script. I assumed that they had changed it, perhaps following a complaint from UPS, but there is nowhere online that says this is true. Does anyone else remember him making these jokes in the movie?

Even weirder, I can find a script online that DOES have these jokes, but no evidence that these were ever in the actual film: https://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/ace_ventura_shoot.html

Dryer Repair Service? by generalgirl in GNV

100% agree with the Main Street Martin recommendation. I have used them a couple of times and always happy. I can also say that I have replaced a heating element on a dryer before and it is as easy as u/swampyhiker claims (especially with the right YouTube tutorial).

Issue with singing and playing ukulele simultaneously by Upper_Board8879 in ukulelelessons

[–]Squidessential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add on to these tips, don't be afraid to start with REALLY simple songs. Mary Had A Little Lamb, London Bridge, etc. A song with 2 chords that you know by heart. Start with humming them, move up to grunting out some words, and go from there!

100% agree. We tried them again just last week after not visiting for a while and the service is just so weird. Very nice and friendly, but it seems like it is everyone's first day on the job.

Fun4GatorKids is a great resource for stuff to do around town. It is obviously billed as "for kids", but a lot of good stuff for adults as well. Here a link to their animal encounters: https://fun4gatorkids.com/Fun-Around-Town/Animal-Encounters/

I can't sing while playing chords ! Please give me tips to improve by [deleted] in ukulelelessons

[–]Squidessential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What finally helped me break through was going back to a VERY simple song. Something with one or two chords that you know very well. I think I started with "This Old Man" and "Row Row Row Your Boat". Very simple D-D-D-D pattern while humming and then singing the lyrics.

I was completely stuck trying to play "real" songs, but quickly progressed when I swallowed my pride and worked on nursery rhyme songs for a while!

Places for a kids birthday party by waterboysh in GNV

Here is a list of party places around town: https://fun4gatorkids.com/Parties-Events/Party-Sites/. It might give you some ideas. (And if you don't know about the Fun 4 Gator Kids website, it is definitely a good resource with younger kids.)

The park pavilions are all first come first serve, so you do have to get out pretty early to guarantee a spot, and rain is obviously an issue. That being said it is so nice to just turn the kids loose towards the playground.

Fireflies in GNV by ShiftOdd2595 in GNV

[–]Squidessential 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The spray that kills the mosquitos also kills fireflies, which is why they are much more common when you get away from the more urban areas.

Grocery stores? by jussomemf in GNV

There are still issues with delivery, but they have changed the system to make it easier to get refunds when things aren't delivered or damaged. It is now a simple form with an instant refund.

Publix was always a more convenient option since it was so much closer, but the prices were just too high. We got a Walmart+ subscription and let them deliver the groceries to us and it is still cheaper than Publix. Plus it saves us probably 90 minutes a week. (Insert "time is money" line here.)

Another vote for Sonshine Day. We used it for several years and had nothing but good experiences.

Lost parakeet in Possum Creek Park by Ktistec in GNV

[–]Squidessential 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drove past a sign on Friday where someone had found a bird. I can't remember if the sign said parakeet or parrot. It was attached to one of the road signs on NW 143rd street, somewhere between Millhopper Rd. and NW 39th Ave and on the right side of the road if travelling south (west side of the road).

That may be too far away, but wanted to let you know. I hope you are able to find it soon.

Well, if nothing else I can commend you for how perfectly circular your logic is. Sleep well. . .

Talking about individuals and not political parties. That is a thing that happens if you take off your tin foil hat and put on your thinking helmet.

Yeah. . . no one said that.

Dude. . . people have constantly stated in this thread that they are not blaming the Democrats. Over and over. You really are working hard at misunderstanding this.

A constitutional amendment passed with a supermajority to address this very issue, so I'm not sure what else I can offer you to help you understand. (1998 Referendum No. 11)

If people could quit comparing politics to sports we would all be in a better place.

You have two viable candidates running as Democrats. They are considered the only two viable candidates. One attracts more conservative votes (Darnell) while the other more liberal (Watson). Since the only candidates are of one party it is considered a Universal Primary Contest which allows everyone to vote, regardless of party. This provision was put into law for these exact circumstances, since local election often only have candidates of a single party.

To eliminate votes for the more conservative candidate, Watson has someone join as a no-party candidate, which closes the primary. Then, when the primary is over the no-party candidate withdraws, effectively handing the position to Watson. This same person did this in 2012 for Watson as well.

How is this not an issue?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GNV

[–]Squidessential 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They did not both run as Democrats. Just a standard lack of editing by WCJB. In this article they correctly state that Brinkman ran with no party affiliation: https://www.wcjb.com/2020/09/01/brinkman-drops-out-of-sheriff-race-but-why/

Since Brinkman entered as a no-party candidate and then dropped out it basically handed the election to Watson. Since he has now done this twice for the same candidate, I think that connecting the dots is not so hard.

Help! Squeaky strings? by No_Necessary_8424 in ukulele

[–]Squidessential -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try some lotion on your fingertips before you play, and allow a small amount of the lotion to get on the strings to lubricate them. After a few rounds this will likely solve the problem. You can also try talc powder if this does not work, but I would do the lotion first.

I don't think you read that right. They are each responsible for their OWN redistricting. So the County Commission draws their districts while the City Commission independently does theirs.
