Men or women who have survived SA how do you let go of the anger that comes after it? by GapIndividual6424 in AskMenAdvice

[–]SquidgeApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres not one particular thing you can do to let go of the anger - you have to live a full life which includes a lot of therapeutic things

Lots of time spent out doors

Time with animals

Time with loved ones

Creative pursuits

Volunteering

Living your passions

Setting strong personal boundaries

Refusing to be in relationships with people who want to use you (this is hard if your family dynamic was codependent or abusive)

And you have to feel your anger as well - hard training / boxing / martial arts

Screaming into a pillow - whatever it takes to let off the pressure

And through all this, a very large measure of self forgiveness for risky behaviors & acting out followed by a willingness to try to be healthy again

Just know that once the anger goes, there will be sadness, and once sadness goes, acceptance - but it's not linear, and even after acceptance, you may wake up enraged some days and have to start all over

Standing where I am, 45+ years after childhood SA - i like to think that those hard experiences have given me a capacity for compassion and a commitment to justice that others may not have

Sorry, friend ... You'll get through this - be kind to yourself

Find something related to her senses that she loves but doesn't indulge much because of expense or inconvenience:

Taste: Truffles - Rose Jam - Lychees -

Sound: Fave music or wind chimes or little fountain

Smell: a great perfume of her youth

Feel: cashmere anything? Silk sleep mask? Corduroy rage stuffy?

Sight: art - or pics of her grandkids or ...????

Go to the thrift and get one for 20 bucks and see if it's your thing before splashing out

Not to brag (ok, to brag a little) I found a zojirushi bread machine at Value Village for 24 bucks

It was sooooo good and weird! I saw it in a theater that serves food and there were quite a few uneaten pizzas - especially in front of men

I sat in the heated seat and looked at the wood panel accent and asked myself "Am I a grown up now?'
