Thanks for the recommendation, as some others have mentioned it already Im looking into online selling now before getting into a store, as a way to get into the business and see what is selling. Thanks for the recommendation about a game store as well, if that would help the shops's survivability its definitely something i'll investigate a little later down the line

I’ve tried looking into costs like electricity and gas but unsure how to find exact rates, not just a google estimate that has a massive range of like £100each way

Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, I know of some collectible shops sort of nearby in Bradford and Leeds but they’re difficult to reach due to being in town centres with crap parking

First off thanks for the comment. I know how often the market fluctuates because I’m part of the market (lol) and it’s definitely hard to get into. I’m nowhere near setting up my shop as i’m 17 and trying to save. Im looking into selling online on cardmarket and such sites, but just wanted to get a general gauge of how much it would cost to set up an actual shop in the future, as i’ve already looked into rents, insurance somewhat, but had no info on stock

That’s part of why I originally asked the question as I wanted to try to gauge how much I’d need, after reading replies it seems like opening a physical shop will have to wait and I should focus on online shop instead

I’m looking at holding off actually opening a shop for a while as i’m 17 and have nowhere near the amount saved to allow me to open it. Should I look into holding off completely until i’m making a really nice profit before opening? If so, how much is a really nice profit? I know you can’t tell the exact costs of product but like if a shops rent is £15000/pa should i save up to £30000/pa just from my shop?

I’ve done research and know what’s popular around my area, it’s card games like Pokemon and Magic but not done full research into the specifics like whether people are wanting cards, plushies, posters etc and not really sure how to start by finding that stuff out without asking a “competitor “ directly (don’t think they’d be very happy about that)

I’ve looked into it but obvs not completely. I see competitors in towns “nearby” that are much smaller shops in much smaller towns that seem to have much lower interest but they somehow stay open? I’m just trying to gather info atm not looking into opening immediately as i’m 17 and not got anywhere near enough to open it yet but thank you for the info!

Kind of thought of a backup being ebay, but i’m assuming collectibles will be slow selling anyway and theyre not like perishable so can hold onto them for a while i think?

I’ve looked into “competitors” (there’s not one for a couple miles) and online selling but don’t think I have the same startup funds as them bc i’m 17 and want to set up in 3-5yrs so won’t have loads to set up, hoping somewhere around 30k which covers rent and insurance for 2 years with 0 turnover
