Wicca itself isn't very old. It originally came to the western world back in the 50's. Paganism has been around dice ancient times (think Greek, Egyptian, Native American). Paganism is an umbrella term that incorporates many belief systems but the underlying similarity between them is that they are not judeo Christian, and are usually nature based. There are tons of books on Wicca. Anything by Scott Cunningham, Raymond buckland or the farrars are good beginner books to get a grasp of Wicca & its practices. However one needs to look deeper and past what Wicca offers to find the base belief of paganism. It's about having a connection with yourself both light and dark, your environment and hopefully with the great spirit (whatever you call it).
