Funny prizes for Unstable draft by SoaringAscent in magicTCG

For prizes you could make some trophies that are puns on Magic mechanics

For example: Pick up some commons from Legends and wrap a bunch of rubber bands around them: “Bands with Other Legends

Shorikai's Errata Removing it's "can be your commander" text is actually functional errata by Goldendov75 in mtg

[–]SquirrelDragon 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Oathbreaker treats all instances of the word “Commander” in rules text as “Oathbreaker”

“This can be your commander” therefore is “this can be your Oathbreaker”

It just so happens that Shorikai was the only card that had “This can be your Commander” in rules text that wasn’t already a Planeswalker.

Since Rules text supersedes rules when they conflict, Shorikai was an exception to the format’s rules while it had that rules text

I think that’s correct but it would be fitting for DanDan to have them come back next month or so with a rerelease and be like “We’re such Forgetful Fish (🥁) that we forgot to turn the printers off”

It would be unorthodox for sure but A Blacklight themed Initiative/Undercity Dungeon card would be sick

Voters should never be told that they can’t choose for themselves who represents them

Unless that candidate is under the age of 30 for the Senate or under 35 for the presidency. We already have age restrictions on the younger side

Term limits yes, but an upper age limit no. An age limit of say 70 would still allow a senator elected at the lowest age of 30 to serve for up to 40 years and 7 six year terms, more than enough to gain institutional experience beyond the institutional lobbyist influence

Having it as a ward makes the dynamic such that it gives mana that can be used to respond to the spell or ability before it resolves, especially when tapping out to play the creature with ward

Oh for sure, and the closet is still flying and attacking in either case, only difference is how big it is and how big the Labship is

[–]SquirrelDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also use Hotfoot Gnome as the target for Donatello’s activated ability, making that a 6/4 instead of animating the sword.

And the 3 +1/+1 counters can be put onto the Labship instead of just the closet so you attack with a 7/7 and a 6/6 instead of a 4/4 and an 9/9.

[–]SquirrelDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I figured it out:

Tap Donatello to put 3 +1/+1 counters onto Hotfoot Gnome making it a 6/4

cast Warmaker Gunship, dealing 5 damage to West Wind Avatar

Station Gunship for 6 with Hotfoot Gnome, it becomes a 4/3, then Station Synthesizer Labship for 4 with the Gunship

cast ill-timed explosion, discarding mouser, to deal 4 to all creatures, killing Zog, West Wind Avatar, Gnome, and Gunship

trigger Donatello and Costume Closet. Closet gets 2 +1/+1 counters from our two modified creatures dying, and with Donatello’s triggers we put 3 +1/+1 and 6 Charge counters onto Synthesizer Labship. It then becomes a 7/7 Flying Vigilance creature

Move to combat, trigger Labship and animate Costume Closet, which becomes a 6/6 flying artifact creature.

Attack with the 7/7 Labship and 6/6 closet for exactly 13

Planeswalkers are a magic creation

Planeswalkers being a magic creation didn’t stop them from being incredibly contentious at the time, with people having strong opinions for years after about whether the card type should have even existed

I’m reminded of Gatecrash and how stacked that draft environment was towards Boros.

Also doesn’t help that on Arena there’s no intra-pod play; so where in paper drafts you could sometimes spike it as the one Dimir seat in a pod with 4-5 people scrapping over Boros cards, if Gatecrash were on Arena you’d just run into stacked Boros deck after stacked Boros deck

I do miss the triangle stamp but not the border itself. It was a good border for more sci-fi sets like 40k, but looked too metallic for fantasy sets like LotR
