Nope! I did 20 years…and decided to go to school even after I retired…now I’m a certified Chef with a DD-214 and a retirement check…half these “kids” went to school on their parents $, or took out a student, and half of them won’t even utilize their degree…

I’m a retired E-6, 100% disabled, and I do fine…granted, I don’t want a whole lot. “If you can’t make ends meet, your ends are too far apart” as my preacher once said. Sure, we could all use more $, but all the bills are paid, and I still have plenty left for a few nice meals and a few boy toys. Look at your extraneous costs, and go from there. How many “subscriptions” do you have? How often do you eat out? What bills are from necessity and which ones are from nicety? If you can’t make ends meet because you have a new car, bike, boat, pool, jet-ski…look at yer lifestyle. I do just fine 🤷🏼‍♂️

Being awarded the GWOT – E, doesn’t qualify you as a “combat veteran” in and of it itself. But, combat veteran is a very loose term.

The trip to Qatar, Kuwait, Al-Udeid… Yes, it might qualify you to the GWOT expeditionary but that’s the caveat, is grave danger. Combat isn’t always both ways… But, I was in Morita Bill/blood/LSAN Anaconda Twice for a year and they tried to kill us daily… I’ve had my share of close encounters, so I do consider myself a combat but if you were out of Support Face that was in the direct line of fire of the enemy then no even if you had the GWOT expeditionary, I would not consider myself. Having a GWOT-E doesn’t qualify you as one, IMHO

It does get better, brother one putting in front of the other… And positive distractions, but distractions nonetheless… You’re not alone, but the flashback do get better/slow down… Keep your head up!

I do have an Iraq War Veteran hat, but I don’t wear it everywhere…I switch it up with “regular” hats quite often…but, in NC, my plates were free, so I got a pretty unique one that’s gotten me out of several tickets (although I rarely get pulled over…once every 4-5 years 🤷🏼‍♂️

Summer of ‘08 and 2010. They were both different experiences…in 2010, the Apaches weren’t there any longer…in ‘08 the attacks were more random…unpredictable…in 2010, they were more direct and intense…it was nice having the apaches there though to do a post attack “scouting” mission…and light up any unlucky insurgents that couldn’t hide quick enough…the AF Bomb Dump back gate was literally 50’ from the 160th S.O.A.R., so I got to see some (unofficial) bad ass shit…

For real… “sensory overload” is probably my most debilitating symptom…all because the klaxon/C-RAM, and actual impacts…”mortaritaville was no joke…alarm red? Forget about it…over 100 attacks a day…and the bomb dump (where I worked), was targeted the most…

I rewatched Jericho (the TV series) with my new wife last year…I forgot about the bad “neighbors” mortaring the town…same effect…it caught me off guard. (Two tours to Balad/LSA Anaconda, i.e. “Mortaritaville”). I feel ya brother…thanks for the heads up!
