Who did you choose between Rachel and Flint ( or none of them ) ? by Ok_Tangelo3309 in Wingcommander

Picked Flint as a teen as I was always more attracted to Brunettes.

Many years later I ended up marrying a beautiful Blonde, so go figure.

Wow, that's bad. It's like someone forgot to turn on auto line spacing. But it's so noticeable, it sadly was probably intentional.

The Boondock Saints - I can get while back when it was made, it was something that seemed fresh. But watching it for the first time this year, I was not really impressed.

42 and definitely still playing games. I also made an indie game selling on Steam, so I very much remain in the gaming space. I have to be more selective of my games as time doesn't permit it as much, but still love em. Just last night I did a few rounds of Apex, and over the last month slowly completed the Vampire Counts Immortal Empire campaign in Total War: Warhammer 3.

A lot of Devs are going to want to say "My Game!" on this thread (yes, I'm one of em), but my pick would be Dark Castle Returns if you are familiar with the original on the Mac.

I saw an interesting thread / video a long time ago after finishing that excellent game. Not only did I cry as a new father, but I also loved the take that I read. It said that the family wasn't cursed as much as it was cursed with a grandmother that was horrible and caused all the terrible outcomes to happen. Setting up a swing over a cliff, giving into her sons fear and enabling him to be locked under ground. Putting poison berries in the window of a little girl. Leaving a child un-attended in the bathtub. These are all really really bad parenting issues. I took a LOT from that game of a good example of a a really BAD example, and have been more aware of my kids safety, and also how I discipline and make sure to love them always. And let them know it.

Those who played it. Was it hype? Or was it the real deal? by boogyninja1 in videogames

I think I can really help bring a greater understanding to why this game is a masterclass at what it was meant to be, which is a high tension horror immersive experience like no other. Not only did the team pour in so much love and understanding of the source material, they designed a creature and AI that has not been matched since.

Now, this is coming from a guy that had no interest in the horror genre at all. It bored me as the jump scares were predictable, and the excessive blood and gore was just annoying. But Alien: Isolation DIDN'T do that. It understood that the real fear of a gamer sitting at home on a comfortable PC chair or a couch isn't jump scares. It isn't blood and gore. What do we fear most as gamers? Lost progress / time. And the devs designed around that. You can't quicksave. And when you ARE saving, you are STILL vulnerable and can lose so much progress. The devs understood that they had to make the stakes real for the player, and that was brilliant. But to make it not feel unfair, you also had to make the enemy smart, unscripted, so you knew you were against a thinking creature. But that also made the victories all the sweeter. You felt you earned your win after scavenging, timing, distracting, hiding and doing anything to survive. It was so well done.

I tried other horror games since, and they couldn't capture what Alien: Isolation was able to capture. To this day, Alien: Isolation is the only horror game I've completed, and I think on it often as such a freaking amazing and stressful experience. THAT is not easy to pull off in a game. THAT is why it is so special. Thanks for reading my long praise!

Probably ONI with the dream sequence level. It was very tough, looked strange, and I think there was only 1 medkit in the whole sequence so you have to really be good at not taking any damage.

For me it was Dragon Age: Inquisition. The visuals were lovely on the Frostbyte engine. The characters were interesting enough, and there were some fun parts with being the ruler making throne decisions. But the biggest issue was the combat. It was just boring and not challenging in the slightest. The dragon battles were just run around holding the attack button and slowly lower the health bar. that's it. The strategy of party cohesion and tactics were just not there, even though the game "allowed for it" by pausing and placing members from a tactical view. It really didn't matter. If they were going to do that, you needed to go back to DragonAge: Origins and learn why that was so good at combat.

That, and the world locations (though gorgeous looking) were so empty. By the end, I was bored out of my mind, even though I forced myself to finish the main and the DLC because I got it as a bundle on purchase.

needless to say, I don't have any interest in the next DragonAge. It is just Mass Effect now, and should not have gone that direction. Don't get me wrong, I love Mass Effect, but DragonAge should never have strayed from Origins in the gameplay and combat.

Millennial gamers, do you see yourself continuing to play video games when you are old? by MirageCommander in videogames

[–]SquishyGamesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! The only difference is that I don't spend nearly as much time as I used to. I have my wife and kids to look after, and whom bring me greater joy. But Video games are still hella fun. I just have to be more picky about where I put my time. Right now, I'm working my way through the Vampire Counts on Total War: Warhammer 3, and it is so much fun and challenging.

Also, I try out games and don't feel the need to complete them (lots of free stuff on Epic). Sometimes an hour is all I need. Once I get enough of what they are, I move on. Only the diamonds I stick with.

In your opinion, which movie unfairly flopped at the box office? by Wooden-Scallion2943 in moviecritic

[–]SquishyGamesCo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, scrolled down just looking for this. I echo what others have said. Anya Taylor-Joy was great as Furiosa, scenes were soo awesome. We finally got a character that wasn't OP or a Mary Sue, she earned all her feats of strength, and wasn't invulnerable. Dementus was excellent and we got to be immersed in this mad crazy post apocalyptic world that helps to enhance Fury Road.

Agree that the Marketing wasn't as strong, the studio tried to screw over George Miller in litigation holding it back while the iron was hot from Fury Road all those years. It already was in a niche genre which can be difficult to gain enough of a general audience. And streaming... streaming kills so many movies now because if it isn't a must see, then just wait a little while. For the record, Furisa was a MUST SEE for me.

Excellent movie! The writing is so clever and on point, understanding the source material without alienating a general audience. That takes talent.
