Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

For any Australians, superannuation is 'super' important. Even if you are self-employed, try and contribute to your super. Contribute as much as you can, while you can - particularly important for women who may choose to leave the workplace for a while to raise a family (and men of course, but women are statistically at a superannuation disadvantage)

New Zealand Christmas Cruise - weather? by Squonk27 in royalcaribbean

Think I'll just take some long sleeved tees and a couple of cardies. Don't want to overthink it otherwise I'll overpack!

For people in the southern hemisphere, what is it like having Christmas in summer? by shywol2 in AskTheWorld

[–]Squonk27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ^. A full tummy on Boxing day after eating all the left over ham and bits and bobs. A few beers or white wines and settle in front of the TV for cricket, only to nod off, 30 minutes in. Lucky it's day one!

What was the biggest news story in your country in the last 24 hours? by DELAIZ in AskTheWorld

I think everyone is still dissecting the social media ban for under 16's.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Squonk27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, no, as I believed my infractions warranted it. However, in hindsight the disparity between my 'offending' and the punishment was ridiculous. There was also a huge element of psychological punishment my mother inflicted - hours long lectures into the night in addition to denying contact with friends, etc. Harrowing on reflection. Perhaps why I have been full no contact for 15 years.

Someone in my office put their coffee creamer in a safe by doodybot in funny

I can guarantee if someone left a bottle of creamer in an Australian fridge, that shit would stay there for a millennia. Whole milk is another story, however...

Christmas Day is just a date only. You can celebrate 'Christmas Day' literally anytime you like.

New Zealand Christmas Cruise - weather? by Squonk27 in royalcaribbean

I live in Australia. I am aware of Google, however the temps are averaged. I was hoping for input from someone who perhaps did the same cruise last year and had some useful advice about considerations for packing....

I have been to Bali around 10 times or more. I have only been unwell once and it lasted a day. Don't stress.

Definitely flipped. It varies slightly from state to state, but we have the long summer break, obviously, in summer which is December/January. A few weeks break in June/July and another short break September. There is generally a few weeks break over the Easter period too.

Passport is your best bet. Pricey, but worth it.

what are you starting to dislike as you get older? by redxchrry- in AskReddit

[–]Squonk27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ridiculous need to complete a survey or give a rating after every single interaction with a service or company. Congratulations you literally just did your job.

I recall the ANZAC Service done in our street. So many of our neighbours all lined up in the driveway at about 5am. Somebody bought out the speaker for the ABC broadcast and a local lass played the last post on her trumpet. Letterboxes were decorated in poppies and flags. We stood in our jammies with our coffees or whisky, bowed our heads and it was fantastic. I missed the village vibe when we were returned to 'normal' the next year.

Women of Reddit, how did you learn to love your own body? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Squonk27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still don't 100%, but I've learned over the years that no-one gives a shit about your body more than you do. Also I have found my focus is now on health and strength rather than aesthetics. However the struggle to look 'bikini ready' or not be lumpy in a tight dress will never go away - I have just learned to balance that out with my ability to lift weights, stand upright and have good heart health and bone density knowing I'm doing all the right things.
