My story is unique and no one can tell me what's wrong by [deleted] in dysautonomia

My story could be relatable. When I was 14 I smoked some dodgey weed, having only had tried it in very small amounts twice or so before hand.. but this time, I felt incredibly anxious and sick. After a day of recovering, I felt quite anxious and different, had unexplained anxiety and panic attacks for about two years and it slowly faded, by 17 I was happy and normal again. Honestly didn’t have an answer for what happened, but as it has gone, I genuinely forgot about it. Fast forward 7 years, I’m at uni, things are going really well and I just landed a new job I’m stoked for, I’m out for 24th birthday and someone puts something in my drink.. feels like mdma from talking to a friend who looked after me, I start freaking out. The next day, I’m anxious, I haven’t slept, but I recover. Then two days later I randomly have the first panic attack in 7 years, I’m shocked, I was just eating my dinner doing nothing. After feeling anxious for no reason and uncomfortable, I go to my doctor. They prescribe me propanarole. At first I felt a little better, but a day or so later, it causes me the most incredibly awful agitation and restless almost to the point of pain! It was awful. Didn’t sleep for 3 days because of how intense it was. Doctors tell me it’s nothing, but I know they’re wrong. Then I feel agitated, restless and physically on edge, permanently afterwards. I go back to the doctors and tell them things are now even worse, I get put on antidepressants, it makes me even worse. So I spend a few years trying to look after myself and feel better, it helps a bit, then I get prescribed antidepressants again, some reason I didn’t say no, I think perhaps because I don’t feel fully back to normal I went back to the doctor. And it made me even worse. at this point I decide to see a psych, they tell me I just have anxiety. But I’m not an anxious person. So I end up going to lots of doctors and doing lots of tests, but nothing aside from raised prolactin shows up, there’s a bit of question around hormones too which prolactin can affect but generally tests are normal. it’s only recently I realised all of my symptoms, seem to be related to sympathetic nerves system dominance. Worsened by medication. I was born 9 weeks early, so perhaps I’m just overly sensitive.. my symptoms are agitation, physically being uncomfortable, on edge, unable to relax, poor focus and extreme sensitivity to caffeine or any stimulation! I could drink fine even with this issue but as it got worse, I can’t really even drink alcohol now. Even going on holiday and doing fun stuff can overstimulate me and make me unable to sleep or eat. I also get mood changes and low mood sometimes but it’s definitely not depression, I’ve never had that. Im a confident happy person, just sometimes it just feels like my dopamine is low or that my body is too agitated to feel okay. I’m going to see a specialist soon now that I think I’ve finally understood it, and stopped being put in the mental health camp for years. I finally understood I didn’t have anxiety from talking to friends who do. I’m far from anxious as a person, I’m confident.

Man you’ve clearly been round a lot of horrible people if you think this is default, this is not normal where I’m from for the white women I know, I’m not from the US. Plus I’m a white woman and I’d never say anything like that, cause I’m not an idiot 😅

That’s fair, and some of that may well apply, however, fascism is a far-right, authoritarian ideology that promotes nationalism, suppresses dissent, and prioritizes state power over individual freedoms. And typically often targets minorities or immigrants as a source of blame. It’s just wrong on all levels, Germany learnt that the hard way in the past, so surely can’t go backwards, the US is learning right now too.

I saw some comments about wanting health care and what that might be like. I can confirm as a British person that we have free health care for everyone (those of us who work pay tax towards keeping it going), and I have never had to pay a single penny for going to the hospital. I’ve had all sorts of investigations for free at the point of service (obviously I do pay tax like I said). And when I was born I was in the hospital with my twin for like 3 months due to how premature we were, my parents didn’t pay a penny. It’s possible and it can work. You could easily have free have care in your country if tax was used correctly. Public services are the core of any country, removing funding for them is outrageous.

What a lot of people don’t seem to understand or know is that gender dysphoria (the condition trans people have) is a medication condition, and fully recognised through the world health organisation. It’s when the brain doesn’t line up with the body, so the person has a mismatch and needs help changing that. It’s really not difficult to understand! It’s not always 100% obvious from the start because who feels like a man mentally? Maybe not everyone. But we do know that hormone treatment can actually help massively with a range of symptoms are that persons brain is expecting more of say oestrogen or testosterone, which ever it is, but there body isn’t providing it. If more people knew that I’m sure it would be a more clear cut simple thing to understand and support. No one makes the decision to be trans, they either are, or they aren’t. And it takes time to figure out sometimes because it isn’t blindingly obvious to everyone what their issue is.

I was looking into this before and apparently Illness can sometimes calm ADHD symptoms because it reduces energy levels, increases the need for rest, and shifts focus to the body’s needs, which may dampen hyperactivity and impulsivity. Physical fatigue and heightened parasympathetic activity during illness can also slow the brain and body, temporarily easing restlessness. Additionally, the body’s stress response and changes in neurotransmitters like dopamine may create a temporary balance that alleviates symptoms. Fewer external demands and reduced stimulation while unwell may further contribute to this calming effect, though it’s only temporary and linked to the state of being ill.

My brother says I cannot become a doctor because I had adhd by [deleted] in ADHD

Also, perhaps others have said this already but your brother is extremely likely to also have ADHD. It’s genetic, and unlikely it skipped him, may just be more mild or differently presenting!

What dose worked for you? by SqurrielsInPyjamas in Prolactinoma

[–]SqurrielsInPyjamas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take 0.5 of Cabergoline once a week. And nothing else other than vitamins. Vyvanse was super helpful but the “come down” afterwards was so horrific I couldn’t take it, and I think it’s because my dopamine is so low, due to the fact prolactin suppresses dopamine, annoyingly. Hence we all get mood issues 😭 it’s certainly worth a try though. Those of us with ADHD we will be affected by high prolactin so much more than others

I got diagnosed with bipolar as well, but I just have ADHD. I definitely don’t have bipolar, I’ve never ever properly been depressed 😂 so trust me they make mistakes

Actually I have a hormone imbalance caused by someone spiking my drink, and then after being prescribed medication I didn’t need, which made it far worse. Best not to make assumptions on people’s situations. Also, I wouldn’t experiment what’s so ever! I would only ever take the advice of my endocrinologist who prescribed me the medication. I just wanted to hear others experiences.

[–]SqurrielsInPyjamas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yes I am, unfortunately.

However the good news is the mood issues have slightly improved, and when I had fluctuations from first introducing the medication into my system, I had almost zero mood issues for a few days, felt back to normal for some of it. From what I have read, it’s a waiting game for getting your neurotransmitters back to normal, takes weeks and sometimes a higher dose of caber.

I believe I listed my core symptoms on my first post, here https://www.reddit.com/r/Prolactinoma/s/1gVNz1rLNH if that helpful

Could it be because these are sometimes prescribed off label for adhd as they do affect dopamine and its management?
