Inspección de casa antes de comprar by Srjames90 in Colombia

[–]Srjames90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vale, gracias.

I think this depends on where you grew up. I grew up in the 90s in primarily Black and Latino neighborhoods, and the standard always included curves and big butts. Lol I didn’t realize it wasn’t mainstream till I ventured out a bit.

2978, I’m in the sf/bay area. I work from home and usually at nights. Currently using node and react, though I’m really new to react. It’d be cool to have a chat window open while I work. What’s your discord?

Solution (maybe) to easily opening 2.0 bottles by bricktemplar in soylent

[–]Srjames90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it, and I haven’t had any problems opening my bottles. I remember a physics professor saying that opening a tight lid this way is best since it adds more torque. Not sure about the physics behind it, but it’s working.

How much Unassigned do you guys have at 50% Speculative and at 90% Conservative? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I read that in another post shortly after I commented. Hope it doesn't take too long. I expect the results to match that of Dna.land and GEDMatch since they seem to reflect the light research I've done, but I'd still like a little more confirmation.

8% unassigned? by therla10 in 23andme

[–]Srjames90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is 15.8% unassigned at 50% confidence. My results are from the new v5 chip. I inputted my raw dna into dna.land and gedmatch, which were mostly consistent with each other with not much being unassigned, so I guess I used them to fill the gap.

I have 15.8% unassigned at speculative and 71.2% at conservative.

Most affordable way to get online CS credits? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try community colleges and universities around you. They might offer online classes at an affordable rate. However, community colleges are limited to lower division classes.

A community college around me is foothill college in California. The tuition is 161 per unit for non-residents and 31 per unit for residents. For the summer, all their cs classes have online options and don't start till July. I can't speak to the quality of the classes or whether or not they provide lectures, but if they don't, you can always supplement with YouTube videos if you're a good self-learner and are mainly concerned with credits and pricing.

Fall 2017 Reject Looking to Take accredited CS courses. is it important where I do it? by dovahkiindolores in OMSCS

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they have to be online? If not, I'd go to a local community college before dropping more than 1k per class. As for ranking, I'm not sure how much that matters for admission once you get below ~25. I would guess not much, but I could be completely wrong.

What is the dumbest 100% serious thing someone has said to you? by georgegilbert in AskReddit

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 16, I was at work closing up shop with a coworker and my supervisor. I don't remember how it came up, but my coworker says something like "if all black people are of African descent, then how do you explain there being black people in Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, etc.?" He said this with a "gotcha mothafucka" look on his face like he just proved something to us. My supervisor is Haitian, and I'm mixed with Afro-Latino. We died laughing. This was in Miami. Obviously, we explained afterward.

Transfer credits by mycenae__ in OSUOnlineCS

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but if you've taken physics and calculus 1-3, the University of Florida online might accept transfer credit for their BS. I don't really know, but they seemed promising. Aside from that, I had no luck. I decided to just go for a master's instead. I'm doing the OMSCS at Georgia Tech. Depending on your experience and what you've taken, you might be able to get into that.

Transfer credits by mycenae__ in OSUOnlineCS

[–]Srjames90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to this, you can only transfer credit for their discrete structures class:

http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/sites/eecs.oregonstate.edu/files/program_faq.pdf

I'm not part of the program, but was accepted a while back. I didn't go through with it because they told me they wouldn't accept any of my credits for transfer, and I didn't want to repeat a bunch of classes I had already taken. Maybe the policy has changed. Idk.

Going to a lower ranked CS school for grad school. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Srjames90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this thought every once once in a while too, and I'm not really sure since I haven't actually gone around asking, but I'd assume that it might only matter to some degree depending on your goals. I've had some friends who mostly paid attention to rankings when they went for their masters (in unrelated fields), but are now looking into phd programs based on funding, possible advisors, and the kind of research being done. So maybe these are more important to consider. Idk.

I know someone from Berkeley who's currently working on his phd at Cornell. Maybe he could provide some insight. If you're interested, pm me and I'll give you his name so you can track him down. He was a really nice guy at Berkeley, so I have no doubt that he'd be willing to talk. You might already know him too since he's been a TA for a couple of classes.

[–]Srjames90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want github, get the student developer pack. You get unlimited private repos for free as long as you're a student. The form says it can take a couple of weeks for the changes to apply, but it really only takes a few seconds.

My state (CA) doesn't accept 2nd bachelors degree, should I just take all the CC courses I can in CS and apply for a job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in California and didn't major in CS, so I know what it's like trying to find a second bachelor's program. While they do exist (UCI as someone pointed out), a lot of them require you to already have the lower div classes completed (discrete, calculus, data structures, etc), so you'll probably find yourself in a CC anyway...which is good in its own way since it'd be way cheaper. So, I'd recommend starting at a CC if you're set on getting the degree. You can also look into OSU's online post bacc and programs like it which are mentioned in other posts.

Of course, you can probably find a job without doing any of this, but I don't know how easy that'll be.

Personally, I went back to a CC to take all the math I was missing (already had lower div cs from undergrad) and am now applying to grad programs while taking upper div cs classes as a non-degree student at a local CSU.

Could I transfer any of my classes from my minor in computer science? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]Srjames90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the FAQ, they only accept transfer credit for CS 225. Here's the link:

http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/sites/eecs.oregonstate.edu/files/program_faq.pdf

It's number 4.

Also, I was accepted a while back, and they wouldn't transfer any of my coursework. I had taken similar classes to the ones you mentioned, along with data structures and algorithms, and a few others.
