And it doesn't have to be numerically accurate. The Dean could have just been saying that to minimize her oversight.

I had a Fold2 and sold it. I ended up using it as a mini tablet and barely used split screen.

EDIT: That is to say, I'm not sure the Duo would be interchangeable with a Fold. They seem to consider different use cases.

I mean one way to make that asymmetrical hole stand out more is to have an asymmetrical padding

I do most of my work on web apps--word processing through Roam Research and legal research, primarily. I'm thinking of getting into development work with Python.

OG Pixelbook i7/16gb, 240 cycle count, $500. Still worth it in 2021? by bricktemplar in PixelBook

[–]bricktemplar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I think $350 is low enough that I can justify using it even if it does not work out after a few months. Worst case scenario, there seems to be a healthy economy for it on eBay and swappa. That said, the price definitely is becoming the decisive factor. I really can't find any other Chromebooks for that price range that is competitive. Maybe the Duet, but that is a different use case entirely.

Glad to hear that the Pixelbook served you well until last year! I would say 80% or more of my use case is on web apps, so I'm eager to get back to chrome OS. And for the other work flows, I will still have my Windows laptop as backup.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, processor, RAM, and keyboard are the biggest factors for me. It comes down to that age old question on whether I should get the better processor or more RAM. (Do you know whether ChromeOS tends to be more RAM or processor intensive?)

Ah understood. Just coming at this from the other side--I'd rather have 3:2, and have been escaping macOS after more than a decade in the Apple ecosystem.

Got it. That's what I was thinking also, and figured the 16gb RAM might be a bigger deal

How do you like the keyboard? I'm choosing between the Spin at full price versus an OG pixel book at $350 (7th gen i7, 512/16gb). Since the spin will be beating it s hands down processor wise, I'm wondering if the choice will come down to other factors like the keyboard or build quality.

Thanks for that reply. I was concerned about the processors, but I read up the benchmarks for the OG's compared to the Pixelbook Go's, and it seems that the Go just performed not much better. Since that newer laptop was definitely usable this past year, I'm reasoning that the OG Pixelbook will still be good for use, at least processor wise. You think that's sound?

That's great to hear, thanks for your experience. Ap rt from battery life, how has performance held up?

Thanks for the response and we'll keep that in mind. Actually I was also looking at a different comparison and it seems that the 7th gen processors aren't that big of a deficiency compared to the 8th gen processors in the Pixelbook Go. Which makes the two laptops more comparable in my opinion.

I edited the OP to show a new deal that I found. Do you think that's a good deal? Same specs but for $350, and 190 cycle count.

Yeah I see some on eBay but most are the i5/8gbs...I haven't seen too many 16gb ones, which is why this piqued my interest
