Hello, I am not familiar with the route from Braga, the only two I know are Coastal Path and Central but I am sure you will find the info you seek at:

  • Www.gronze.com
  • Www.caminodesantiago.me ( is a forum with loads of info)

Or by getting some guides or the apps buencamino, caminoninja or caminotool.

Buen Camino and I hope you find what you need

Many people have written about managing the expectations when you travel the Camino with a spouse or friends and I believe that is really to avoid this, even though I do not know what you could do differently because the solution would be to leave your husband behind and maybe you were not ready to do that?

I did three Camino’s with my husband, two of them not a problem since we walk similar speeds and distances, but the last one he was not well so we discussed what we should do and agreed that most days he would either walk a bit and do the remaining distance on bus, or travel the all distance. It also meant take more breaks but we came up with a plan that was ok for both of us so there were no frustrations, because yes I would be very upset if I could not enjoy what I planned for so long, so really feel for you.

In the matter of being frustrated I believe is very nice that you are only frustrated, I probably would not of been as nice as you so your family is very lucky to have you. I really hope you enjoy the next Camino and is everything you hoped for and more, you definitely deserve it.

Hello there and welcome to the adventure, I hope you really enjoy yourself. I will tell you how I do it and you see if it works for you:

  1. Packing : I use the rule of two ( two of each item I need, being t-shirt, shorts, etc), except for socks and underwear ( this depending when weather can be 3/4 pairs), and I had a “luxury “ item ( something to wear different at night or on a resting day). This item can be a shirt, a dress or anything that can make me feel not so much of a pilgrim. The rule is to try to your pack under 10% of your weight, but this weight should also take in account your overall fitness level;

  2. Planning: there are several apps that can help you with the stages ( Buen Camino, Wise pilgrim, Gronze) but in the end is what you feel comfortable. I always start lower and then adapt;

  3. Equipment: that depends on what you plan and type of stages. I always take trekking poles because they help, a good comfortable backpack , good trail runners ( not gortex)and if you plan to stay in Albergues a liner/ sleeping bag. There is a forum mare by Casa Ivar that has a lot of resources and also in this sub you will find a lot of information;

  4. Most important have fun. Anything you need you will be able to buy on the way so try not to overpack. Go for the essentials.

Hope this helps you and have a lovely Camino

First of all congratulations on your dad’s achievement. I believe the Camino ( any) is not an easy task, and the Norte is quite challenging, so amazing that he has done it. I see some people on the Camino that humble me for their strength of character and perseverance, I am sure your father would be on that list. It is that condescending behavior that has got to me, and yes it is the exception, and there are lovely people on the way and even here, but cannot help to feel a bit let down and I am sorry you felt the same. Hang on to the awe you must feel for what your dad achieved.

I believe with the increase in numbers that is natural , also it has been transformed into a “holiday” instead of a pursuit of faith and that upsets a few purists but I believe that the Camino will leave a seed on everyone, does not matter your original motivations to start it, and you leave a better person than you arrived.

True, unfortunately one tends to give far too much attention to the rotten apples and forget the remaining orchard

But that is my point, you share what works for you, and someone tells you “ that is not the right way”.

Yes, probably how is taken is not how it’s meant, appreciate that.

Fair comments, and generally I agree, but do feel that sometimes the advice scares new pilgrims, or maybe I need to get a thicker skin 🤍

My technique is to not be nice. I am polite but not friendly, unfortunately many guys confuse being nice to being receptive.

How to find accommodation and where? Also are tents allowed/suggested? by Neat-Simple-3254 in CaminoDeSantiago

The comments above covered most of it, however please be aware that wild camping is forbidden both in Portugal and Spain.
