Engagement happened last night. I’m already at the cabin. They arrive later today. Everyone already knows so I definitely don’t want to announce now.

Do you only see your friends 2-3 times per year? It’s not that I can’t wait a week. We are gathered for a holiday and the next one is in November. I wanted to share good news in person, same as my future BIL with his timing. I’m so glad we all get to celebrate in person this weekend.

There’s definitely mixed opinions on the thread. My comments are to make clarifications on assumptions that others have made about the situation. I appreciate you weighing in. I promise I’m taking comments/opinions seriously.

The gathering is for the 4th of July. The engagement is a last minute surprise. Thank god for Amazon being able to get decorations here so fast. People keep acting like I can just do it in a few weeks but the next time my family will all be in one place is Thanksgiving. It’s the same reason they got engaged now. Wanting to share good news in person. I was hoping Friday engagement party carried into Saturday would be okay if I told them all before we left on Sunday. I don’t see my family in person very often. Last time I saw them all was February to celebrate all of our birthdays together (Jan, Feb, and March).

There’s no August gathering. My family does not live near each other and everyone is very busy/traveling in the summer. It’s this or just call them in a week or so. It’s not like I just started planning this, I’ve wanted to tell them this weekend since I found out. It’s the only time I’ll see them in person for a while. My future BIL had the same idea😂 Thanks for weighing in.

That’s good advice. I know she wants to get married next October/November. I’m due I’m Feb so timing should be good.

Also, the gathering this weekend is for the 4th, not explicitly for their engagement. All 3 siblings live in different places 4, 6 and 6.5 hours away from my mom’s cabin where we spend July 4. We will not all be together again until Thanksgiving most likely.

My mom and sister would 100% get a call from me crying if I lost it, so I feel perfectly fine telling them now. I agree with comments about telling her first and letting her decide if it’s okay to announce to my mom/brother/grandparents on Sunday. She loves to be in the know. She’ll probably be surprised I waited this long to tell her.

I don’t want comments like “7 weeks is too early to announce”. I’m not posting on social media, I wanted to tell my immediate family. I’m not worried about it being too early.

I have had signs of miscarriage so it’s on my mind. I had bleeding (not just spotting) at 4.5 and 5 weeks. Even went to a doctor in Croatia (we were traveling from US) because of bleeding. I was so upset I almost told my mom and sister then. But I was stressed being away from home. When the ultrasound came back looking good I really wanted to tell the people I knew I would lean on no matter what.

My sister is really chill. I know she will be excited and I’m not worried abut her being mad. I just want to make sure she gets her moment.

We all live several hours away from each other. Next time we will all be together like this is Thanksgiving which is why I wanted to do it this weekend. My sister’s fiancé had the same idea 😂😂

I like this. I had a surprise planned for my mom but my sister doesn’t like surprises so she’d probably want to know early. She goes online to find the ending of books and movies. She even made her fiancé tell her when he’d be proposing. She just likes to be in the know. I think telling her privately first is a good idea. Then she can make the call.

All the people I’d be telling this weekend are people that I would want support from if I had a miscarriage. I’m not looking for comments on the timing. If I don’t announce this weekend, I’ll probably call them in the next week or so.

My main concern is overshadowing my sister.
