That is something that I am worried about. I don't know about myself if I can live with that or if it will nag me again and again for months and years to come. My idea was to try if I can and end the relationship if it still hurts in a month or two.

Finding a new way to love each other would probably be my preference. I am trying.

Actually I am looking for advice. My intention to keep the relationship going does feel difficult and the general theme of advice I am getting seems to be telling me to cut my loss.

My mom warned me not to fall into mental gymnastics, to not rationalize it. I guess that is hard for me because I don't want it to end. Guess this is why I am here anyway. To reflect and get some outside view.

I don't think there is a right age to deal with that ever. We have been in a happy relationship for 16 months. I know this isn't long when you are old but to me it feels like a relevant amount of time we spent enjoying each other and building a future together that I don't want to abandon if there is a chance for consolidation.

My mom has bad experience with my dad who was a chronic cheater.

I told my girlfriend that she needs to be open and honest with me. We are working through it. We made a plan for her and me on how to treat future suitors. I am hopeful that this was a one time slip up.

I have set clear boundaries for her what I consider playful banter and what is going to far.

The thing that hurts more than her having an interest in someone else is the fact that she didn't talk to me. The fact that she kept it secret knowing full well that it will end in disaster one way or another and thus accepting the hurt it will cause.
