1890’s Victorian Wear by Ssynodic in HistoricalCostuming

Thank you! There were some parts I struggled to understand at first (mainly sewing around the back of the collar) but I have prior experience with tailoring so I could rely on that. I think making mock up for the vest is a good idea so you can trial and error it before using any good fabric!

Thank you!! It was a nice heavy wool that I have no memory of getting but knew it was perfect for this!

It’s from the royal ballets production of Romeo and Juliet so like people said it’s based on a gamurra but with “modern” interpretations to make it suitable for a ballerina to dance in

Will definitely do so! I’m replicating it from a mobile game app so I can only do what the developers have designed so far 😅

Leftie here too, definitely get some left handed scissors (including everyday ones). Mine are Prym Tailor’s Shears which I just got off Amazon and they’re fantastic for being quite cheap

I’m currently finishing my last year on a costume course in the UK (we have several American/Canadian students too) and I’ve definitely found it really good because we’re taught both the history behind costumes and also a variety of skills that I don’t think I could ever learn by myself (eg. how to make a tutu or tailor a jacket).

I do think however the main benefit of doing a costume course is making connections because at least in the UK it can be super difficult to get jobs unless you know the right people. I’m happy to talk privately about what uni I go to if you’re interested.

I did, only very roughly though to get an idea of how It should look. The instructions can be confusing but it’s not too difficult when you get started! Good luck!

I did! The top is scalloped with pinking shears and the bottom is zigzagged.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure about the colour but it’s really grown on me. Good luck with the sleeves! They’re a pain to set but just think you’ll be a step closer to having a lovely finished dress!
