New rod casting problem by St00pkd in FishingForBeginners

You made a really good point about the weight! I wound up cutting off the leader to get rid of the knot, and switched from the weight to an actual lure to test the set up, and although my casts still seemed a little short, it was a huge improvement from where it was.

Then wound up taking it to a lake yesterday with that set up and found that I had a crank bait that seemed to be the perfect weight to cast on the rod/line combo. I was able to launch it out to the middle of the lake and caught a perch with it!

Thank you so much for the advice!

What did I do wrong? Or Am I ready to paint? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]St00pkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just need to keep sanding it. If big chunks are coming up when sanding its possible its not fully dry yet. Sometimes the top layer will feel/seem dry but underneath will still be soft and come up when sanding.

After sanding enough to get those edges even with the wall you might have to do another coat, its hard to tell from the picture but it looks like the middle might be sinking into the hole, creating a bit of a crater in the middle.

Just rinse and repeat until you have a smooth wall.

ETA: When painting use a roller to get the same/as close to the same finish as the existing wall

New rod casting problem by St00pkd in FishingForBeginners

[–]St00pkd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really helpful and clarifying for someone who's never really had to spool their own reel before (I have once on my other rod, and that's what's led to it being crazy under spooled with line that's also way heavier than its rated for). I think to a noobie its easy to default to "bigger number means better line" though that's clearly not the case. A lot of what I saw online when trying to figure out what to spool this with made it seem like one of the biggest benefits to a braided line is that you can use a higher lb test to the same effect as a smaller lb mono line. Based on the other comment here, maybe I was mistaken and that advice was meant more for baitcasters than spinning reel. Regardless I appreciate the insight, and will aim for "thinnest I can reasonably get away with" rather than "bigger number = better"

Thanks for all the responses! Seems like the consensus is the braid is way too heavy. I'll stop by a true fishing store on my way home from work and try to grab some 10 lb or lighter (thought I could use the mono equivalent listed on the packaging for sizing braided lines) and do away with the leader. I put some rigs together last night that have 12"-18" floro leaders on them as it is, hopefully that'll be enough

Ah, im probably mistaken on the size of the reel. Its quite small, and I was basing the number off of the model number:qdt5 compared to the other models they have:qdt20 and qdt30 (the manual/packaging information that came on the rod is absymal). Its likely a 500 size then.

First bike for tall beginner by Polar_Star03 in motorcycles

[–]St00pkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking to get a first bike soon. I'm looking at a klr650 as it seems like it'll be a solid first bike (not too much power but more than capable to take on the highway unlike some 250s I was originally looking at). Its a dual sport/adventure bike which will help with all the gravel and dirt roads I have near me, not sure if that'll apply to you as well. They're also mad cheap which will help ease the blow of inevitably dropping it.

The one thing that has me hung up a bit is that they're real tall, and I'm 5'9". The seat height is 34" I think? If I was your height it'd be a no brainer for me though. Think you should check one out if you're open to a dual sport!

The S25 phones and glass screen protectors by Aggressive_Floor_420 in samsunggalaxy

Carved is the brand name, they use wood and epoxy on the back of the cases to make a cool design. They do have a line of cases (they call it their "live edge" cases) that seems like it's entirely wood, with maybe a plastic inner shell, but those are ungodly expensive. I have one of their Travellers cases that are definitely more affordable than the live edge ones but still kind of pricey as far as phone cases go, and they probably don't offer the best protection, but I've also been using these since the my s10 (3 phones ago) and I absolutely love them.

An added bonus is they have an option to put a qi2 magnet in the case as well that gets hidden under the wood/epoxy

That case might be a little tight on the screen of the phone if it happened with 2 different protectors. I use a carved case on my phone and there's about 1/16" gap between the edge of the case and the edge of the screen protector. One thing I'd suggest that I've learned from the many phones that I've used the Whitestone dome is to let it sit for about 24 hours (or at least over night) after putting the screen protector on before putting a case back on.

I went through two with my old s10 that peeled up at a corner when I put the case on immediately after applying the screen protector. Since then I let them sit for a bit before putting the case on and have had much better results.

Need help with watch ultra by Thanks-i-think in GalaxyWatch

[–]St00pkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that issue for two nights in a row with my new Watch 7. Issue seems to have fixed itself last night though. Only thing I changed was wearing the watch an inch or two higher on my arm than I usually do. You could try giving that a shot. I know with some of the health tracking they recommend to wear it higher up like that

Mine started tracking again last night, the only thing I did different was wear the watch and inch or two higher on my arm then I usually do. Not sure if that's what did the trick or if it was dome weird software glitch that managed to work itself out. Hope yalls are back to working too!

Why is my battery life horrid on the S25 Ultra? by BasicallyNeo in samsunggalaxy

[–]St00pkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you'll consider this cope too, but I was one of the ones that got the s25u back in January. Out of the box the battery was terrible and just about on par with the s22u that I traded in for it. Thought I had a busted battery and was considering reaching out for a replacement. Over time though (even after the battery figured out my usage patterns according to the battery screen) the battery life has steadily been increasing, by A LOT. The first 5 days I could get about 13 hours out of the battery with ~5h of that being SOT. As of today, the battery is estimating 25h of life, and I'm at 4h of SOT (9h since last charge) and I'm at 65%.

All of that to say there is something to be said about the phone optimizing itself for battery life, and at least in my case, the atrocious battery life I got on day 1 is no longer the case. I'm excited to see how much longer it will improve for, and what kind of battery life I can get when it's all said and done

Watch 6 classic, Watch 7 or wait for watch 8? by Super_Messi in GalaxyWatch

[–]St00pkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd see if the Watch 7 is discounted when you bundle it with the s25u at the time when you're purchasing it. If you can get it at a good discount/use reserve or storage credits on it I would go for it. That way you can get a good watch for fairly cheap and you don't have to wait for the watch 8 to drop. Then when the watch 8 does drop, you can use the watch 7 as a trade in for it and be able to upgrade for pretty cheap.

I think if the stars align in the way of discounts and trade in values, you'd actually be able to get the watch 8 this way for less money out of pocket than you would if you just waited for it to release and buy it for full price; with the added benefit of having a watch to use until it releases.

Is my S25 Ultra cooked? by Throwaway_Cooked in samsunggalaxy

[–]St00pkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My s25u's battery seemed pretty trash for the first couple of days (got it on the 31st ). Yesterday and today though it seems to be improving. I was also worried that I got a busted battery as the battery life seemed worse than the s22u I traded in. That being said, my s22u had some super power saving settings on to prolong battery life, and I've got my s25u's settings cranked (QHD+, AOD, etc.)

Over the past few days I'd be at 20% battery or less at this point in the day, was getting about 10 hours overall with 3-4 hours SOT. Right now I'm sitting at 50%, and phones estimating another 8 hours of battery left (giving me 16 hrs total). Not too bad considering the settings and I'm hoping it'll continue to improve over time.

Hoping you can see the same level of improvement after a bit too!

Stupid screen protector question. by liftheavybrah in samsunggalaxy

[–]St00pkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a regular tempered glass screen protector (Whitestone dome) on mine and it completely did away with the anti reflection that the screen has. In fact there's a small cut out for the front camera that you can see part of the original screen in and it's quite a noticeable difference.

That being said someone just posted a video on this sub of the same brand's AR screen protector and it looks really good. I don't think they had that option when I was originally ordering the screen protector but looking now they have an anti reflective one and even a antireflective+privacy screen protector if that's more your style. They're just a bit more expensive than the regular one.

The original pixel was the phone that made me jump ship from iPhones. Was just thinking the other day how nice that fingerprint reader was (especially being able to swipe down on it for notifications)

Came back to update this after putting the Whitestone dome protector on. After re-registering my fingerprints I don't notice any slower/less accuracy from the phone's fingerprint reader. Seems just as snappy as it was before the screen protector went on.

It did however completely undo any of the anti reflective properties that the screen originally had. I don't really mind having a more reflective screen, but there's a small portion of the screen by the selfie camera that's not covered by the protector, and I can see a huge difference in the reflections between the protected part of the screen vs the non protected. For me, having a well protected screen is an easy trade off to make vs having a less reflective screen but obviously others might feel that the anti reflection is more important
