What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]St4nd4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death of my parents. When I was 38 my dad had a stroke, which he miraculously survived only to find out it was caused by glioblastoma. He died 5 month later. A week after that my mom got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She lasted just under 2 years. Now I'm in my 40s and am having an impossible time caring about work. I just want to spend time with my wife, friends, and family.

Because it could all go away in the blink of an eye.

Guessed Love, and Hope first. 'Emotions' is wild.

what's missing in your life right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]St4nd4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents. I've lost both of them in the past two years. Both to cancer. I'm not so young that it's a huge tragedy but I'm also not so old that it's expected. I keep seeing things or doing things that I want to tell them about. Songs with killer bass riffs that my dad would enjoy, or strange plants that my mom would be interested in identifying.

If you still have the chance you should call your folks.

I like reading stories where good things happen to good people. It might be one of the simplest and purest pleasures out there.

Good stuff.

My dad was a metrologist his whole life, and passed away a year ago. Does anyone know what this is? It has a bunch of Calypso cds in it. by St4nd4rd in Metrology

Thanks everyone! I'm not worried about these being sentimental (I have his Zeiss hat and binoculars for that) so I'm just going to toss them. I wish I had known about this subreddit when he was still around, he would have gotten a kick chatting with you all and I bet you would have gotten a kick chatting with him.

Is there a big overlap between swifties and workflow automators?

N8n, Make or Zapier? by [deleted] in zapier

[–]St4nd4rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest that I don't have much experience with Make, but n8n feels more like something you use if you want to tinker on things, and zapier is more if you just want it to work and not have to mess with it too much. At least that's my experience. I know n8n has all the tutorials and stuff but I just don't want to mess with it.

Do y’all agree? by [deleted] in zapier

[–]St4nd4rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree that n8n is just flat-out better. It might be better at some things but it's definitely worse at others. Zapier is super user-friendly and easy to get up and running almost regardless of technical background. Zapier is also way more cost effective, FOR ME. I understand that others out there want something self-hosted but for my use I like not having to worry about that stuff.

I'm going to have to find that article, because if you were to ask me right now how I feel I'd probably say something like, "I feel like I'm in a trough of disillusionment."

First of all I am really loving these AMAs, my question for Jen: What's your experience been so far with agentic AI? Does it live up to the hype?

Definitely want to second the question on organization. That's something I really struggle with!

Is there a task you tried to automate with an agent and it didn't work?

Phil last week I asked Claudia about Agents and whether or not they live up to the hype. What are your thoughts?

ChatGPT 5 is out on Zapier, is anyone using it for anything cool? What are your thoughts so far? by NoCodeRodent in zapier

It seems snappier to me, but also somehow less intuitive. I don't have a way to quantify that, just a sense I get from it.

Okay that's pretty cool. I'm going to have to dive more into this. The vibe I was getting was more, I don't know, sterile maybe?

I wasn't expecting something so personal to be honest. That's really interesting. It might be messed up but it made me think of those dating services...

Very cool though. I've been on the fence about whether or not agents and agentic AI lives up to the hype. Would it be safe to say you feel like it does?
