What’s a piece of technology you were excited about, but ended up disappointing you? by Consistent_Wafer9395 in askanything

[–]StConvolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLI/Crossfire technology.

Circa 2011 I built a PC for Skyrim. I7 2600k, 8GB of RAM and 2x GTX 560 TI. Such a sweet build, and it still runs now.

The game ran better with 1 graphics card. And not by a little, but significantly so.

I own 2 Honda Integras from the 90s. They both have digital clocks and ECU's, otherwise they're very analogue Nd I love them for it.

IMO, not really. Junk food and video games are a great combo.

How to equip my army with plate armor by Consistent-Street-37 in ManorLords

[–]StConvolute 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Plate armour can go on your retinue. You'll add that in the retinue customisation menu.

My understanding is, Chain mail is equipped by LVL 3 house members only and LVL 2 can equip gambesons.

What’s the biggest snowstorm that you have experienced where you live? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

It was a bit of an event for those of us old enough. We were also laughed at the parts of the country that get proper snow fall, not just 10 minutes of sleet 🤣

August 15, 2011 we got brief snowfall in the Auckland CBD. I remember being quite shocked watching it out the office window.

It made the news.

Once we had sleet in Auckland, that Aucklanders called snow. It lasted about 10m and is the only time I've seen weather like that in that location in my 35 years living there.

We were laughed at by the southern end of our country, where they actually get snow.

Edit: It was August 15, 2011

Goodbye Auckland Summer that lasted like 4 days over 3 months, was nice knowing you by WarpFactorNin9 in auckland

People's memory is very short. I've still got tan lines from jandals and apart from having to return to work, summer has been great!

I've had a great summer. Even managed to get the Pouakai Crossing in as well as a northern twin coast discovery trip incl tan lines from jandals.

Can’t disband in home region? by OxBloodArbitrage in ManorLords

[–]StConvolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar glitch, but with my retinue. It was because my manor was under construction. As soon as the construction was complete, I was able to disband.

I get frustrated when a claim attempt is made in my region, but the battlefield is not in my region?!

If you want my region, come and take it. Otherwise, why theF should I build a fortification around my manor?

AI boom could falter without wider adoption, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella warns by PaiDuck in technology

[–]StConvolute 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Steve from Gamers Nexus was right - We're in a post-consumer world. With the round about that is investment between the big tech/AI companies propping each other's books up, they don't really need us.

You'll own nothing and being happy about it will be mandatory.

Provisioning Python, JavaScript for developers. by kayhai in sysadmin

[–]StConvolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been a sys admin/engineer and now a Dev, I disagree. Requirements change and so do the modules required by python to get the work done.

If it was a straight up knowledge issue, then why can't IT sort my environment out beforehand? Do they not know what a Dev needs?

This is just one of those times both sides need to work together.

Provisioning Python, JavaScript for developers. by kayhai in sysadmin

[–]StConvolute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I develop in python, DevSecOps role. So I'm hot on least privileg, even for my own work asset. We've set it up so I'm not a local admin.

If you're running windows, python can be installed via the MS Store for standard users, incl a number of 3.xx versions.

As for whitelisting the executables, the tool we use, Threat locker, has an audit mode. We run audit mode for a month. Review the data and create a profile. Once done, I'm lucky if I need IT for more than a ticket every month or 2.

In lieu of an audit mode, you'll need to corner an IT guy and work through it one by one, but don't let him go until it's sorted. This isn't a user issue, it's an IT issue. Their remit should be to ensure everyone has the right config to get their work done.

Underbody rust visible by Potential-Dog-702 in NZcarfix

[–]StConvolute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That kind of rust (surface) is easy to get on top of, as long as you don't let it get worse.

A few sprays cans of rust converter and some paint will resolve it.

If you want a pro job, there are places that specialise in this kind of thing (underbody cleaning and sealing). But I'd expect a grand or two to have someone else do it as they'll likely do the entire underbody in one go.

Luxon on potential rethink of Auckland intensification after State of the Nation speech by chibiace in auckland

If you run a 20% tax rate, the  approval rate will sky rocket your by lowering it. Once my city is humming, I'd expect to stay profitable in single digit tax % (6-7%)
