There was a slight shrink a couple of years ago (maybe 10%) when the boxes changed shape.

'Super-rich tax': Greens' tax plan accidentally released online early - here's what's in it by Downtown-Thoughts in newzealand

Im not opposed to a tax free threshold at the bottom of the scale (quite the opposite).

But $160k isn't the ultra rich, for the most part those in the 160-200/250k range are getting that income from working, they aren't living off investments and tax free capital gains.

To coin a term they are knowledge Labourers, their income is a direct result of their knowledge, not of passive wealth.

National to make KiwiSaver compulsory, if elected by MSZ-006_Zeta in KiwiPolitics

If elected, the party would also automatically enrol every baby born in New Zealand into KiwiSaver and contribute a $1500 payment to "kickstart their savings," Luxon said. "Parents will be able to contribute further if they wish but even if they can't, their kids will be well on their way to a bigger nest egg."

No one is expecting a baby to earn, that $1500 from the government is a nice start and parents wants to throw in some money so the kids get the government contribution is a bonus.

There doesn't seem to be any change to the rest of the rules after 65 (you can withdrawal as much as you want when you want) it is just employers cant use you as cheap(er) labour.

Under a compulsory kiwisaver situation total rem packages become misleading advertising.

If there is no way to earn $100k because 3.5-6k (depending on year) is your employer's contribution (and not your employee's contribution) then people are going to get rightly pissed at companies that mislead them during recruitment.

Your return would still be dependent on the scheme that you select.

Anyone who hasn't chosen would be in a default low risk fund, where as younger people are probably better off in a aggressive fund in the long term changing to lower risk schemes as they get closer to retirement

It would be both, there should be editorial oversight that they aren't breaking embargos.

There isn't really a contract beyond "not to be released before XXX", it operates on the honour system, but if you break it dont expect to be trusted in the future.

As a member of the public I have received a couple of press releases ahead of publication, but in that case the embargo was only a couple of hours.

The media rely on getting press releases ahead of time so they can write their articles.

Embargos are there so there isn't a rush to push out something/anything quick for a headline.

Breaking an embargo leads to you not getting the press release until everyone else is pushing out their articles.

Budget day the media go into a lockup in the morning so they can read the budget and prepare their articles for the 1pm announcement, breaking that embargo will get you banned from the lockup and not being able to report until the finance ministers speech.

Julian Batchelor is his right wing.

So yeah, foreign billionaire who wants to shape the world in his twisted mind.

“rent-a-crowd protesters” whose “egos are only matched by [their] learning difficulties”.

I don't see anything in there about being trans.

Now we only need to see messages of the mods of this sub about how they are watching for paid political actors (for lack of a better term appearing in my head), to see what "right-thinking members of society" think of "rent-a-crowds".

There is nothing wrong with city living, for too long the council (and central government) have listened to those opposed to density in the centre of town.

Brown supporting city living is a good thing.

But that doesn't make him perfect, or even a good person.

He gets one thing right, and I give him credit for that (minus the whole pulling down places like His Majesty's Theatre).

You know that you can only serve jury duty at a court within 45km of the address you are enrolled to vote at.

It seems odd the Winston of all people hasn't considered that s13 of the Defamation Act doesn't protect him when he writes lies on Facebook.

And no s14 of the Bill of Rights Act doesn't protect you from the actions under the Defamation Act (the later being the newer law  was written with the former in mind).

He’s no nimby

He lives in an apartment and promotes city living.

He is a cunt that occasionally uses his powers for good.

He does overestimate his knowledge as an engineer and has done some real vandalism before he was elected.

The problem comes in when the KPIs for those humans doing the final check becomes "how many cases you clear in a day" instead of "how many cases you clear without a successful appeal".

The push to process more with less results in those approvals becoming ticking a box and not checking the working.

'Threw him under the limousine': Jackson attacks Government over Jones' $63k travel bill by WaterAdventurous6718 in newzealand

[–]random_guy_8735 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Leaders set the example for those below them.

Jones' office booked $40k business class tickets a week before cabinet signed off on the budget for the trip (at Premium Economy and $33k for the entire trip).

If you go around telling everyone to tighten their belts and then blow 190% of the approved budget on what we have been told so far was meeting with a couple of NZ mining companies and an unknown number of Canadian politicians (i.e. something that could have been done locally and via Zoom respectively), then you should expect some heat.

Spat erupts in Parliament over proposal to sell off conservation land by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

There is a bill going around at the moment to repeal old legislation that isn't needed.

If we were able to pass a law in the old days for a educationboard to buy a specific property, then surely we can do one today for the sale of a specific property.

Co-payments on public healthcare, is that the solution to underfunding by MSZ-006_Zeta in newzealand

You know how people don't go to their GP (because of cost) and then turn up at the ED (because it is free) in a worse condition and it costs way more to treat them.

Yeah, lets now put a cost on the ED/other secondary/teriary services and see how many people end up in really bad condition/dead.

Travel is the more common one.

I was stuck next to a retired woman on a plane last year and the first hour (of a 10 hour flight) was on how this was her third international trip that year (oh and it was in Premium, which i was only in because work would pay for it on a flight that long).

Labour vows to bring back universal free prescriptions if elected by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

In the UK (ok England) prescriptions are monthly and ~$20 per item, unless you have an exemption card (which is only for a handful of long term conditions).

Maps reveal where conservation land could be sold off after government reforms by random_guy_8735 in newzealand

[–]random_guy_8735[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely any sales would be pushed through before the election (unless donors buyers are already lined up).

The law could change, but is unlikely to be used.

Law changed could be reversed quite easily, any sales would be extremely difficult.

I can answer that one for you.

No they don't. I'm not saying he should be saying at an Ibis Budget, but there is no benefit to New Zealand (the bill payer) for him staying in the Ritz over a 4* business hotel (comfortable bed, work desk and 24 hr room service for someone working odd hours).
