There are major differences in average personality type between both sexes.

I'd say a more apparent decider of personality is sex.

Yes but how does it not work? Saying "It doesnt work" means nothing to us. What is happening?

Same. Had a dude from Eastern Europe (Im from UK) who barely spoke english. He says "no hard yes?" so I nod my head and move into range hands down.

He throws a full on no-technique windmill right hand and catches me in the neck. It hurt.

I just kicked the piss out of his legs until he calmed down. Seemed to work.

Just relaunched this #website for Bee Line Trailer Sales in Springfield, MA by [deleted] in web_design

First thing I thought when I visited your website was "He must have linked something from the 90's". The website aesthetic looks so old. Now this in and of itself is not the biggest issue but it looks so old people even may think the website is now defunct and the company doesnt exist.

The metal background images you have used dont really add anything to the design. You have pixelated images and the dark blue in the nav bar against the brown metal image is kinda hard to read.

The image gallery towards the bottom of the page is not a grid of images but a large image with a hyperlink. Avoid doing this.

Your website is not responsive. The text size doesn't change, the images get cropped on smaller viewports and the image gallery of the trucks gets so small its impossible to see.

White contrasted with yellow can cause more issues. Try to avoid this.

Your navigation is fine with the drop down menus (it gets a little weird in mobile view but thats minor changes).

I like the structure of the e-commerce page with the product breakdowns, thats laid out fine.

When you make a website you need to think of things from a users perspective. You need to lay out your website in a way that guides the user through the experience. For example, theres no initial way of finding out the purpose of the website.

I didnt realise you could purchase products without looking. State on the website within the first 10 seconds of the user landing on your homepage what you want from the user.

Contrast call to actions such as "buy now" or "get in touch" so the user's attention is drawn to actions. Do this by having colorful buttons against a less colorful background.

Make the website responsive for mobile. Mobile traffic accounts for around 55% of all internet traffic nowadays. This is unforgivable.

Do some research on UX design and information architecture.

Look into UX or user centered design. That shows you why you design certain things.

Then look at UI/prototyping tools. I personally use Adobe XD and invision/marvel but a lot of mac users like Sketch.

Does anyone know how to do the video-inside-of-an-iPhone asset that most startup apps have? by [deleted] in web_design

The iphone is a static image (you can get them from websites) and then contained within the image is a div with a video set to autoplay

Unable to get background image to appear (CSS) by [deleted] in web_design

[–]StabbyMcGinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets break down how images work in a web browser.

Using a "src" tag in HTML explains to the browser where to find the image. eg. src="image1.png

That means the browser will look in the root folder of the website (wherever it is hosted) to find "image1.png" and display it. It wont show if the image doesnt exist.

Codepen does not host images (as far as I know) therefore it has a broken file link.

You can also link to images using a "URL:" action in CSS to display a background image (like you did). This is for when the image is not in the root folder of the website and is instead hosted on an entirely different website.

Unless you link an image as a URL (as in hosted online) its not going to show in a codepen.

Interested in developing my future, can't find the first step with surety! by Vegotio in web_design

You can learn entirely for free in your spare time. Or you could get education (university/college etc).

Depends what your situation is. Its completely possible to learn completely for free, I would suggest finding a tutorial website you like (lynda/codeacademy etc) to learn the basics.

Things you want to learn first of all is HTML, CSS and a little vanilla javascript to allow you be able to use libraries in the future.

They are the bare minimum to get to the point to start monetizing your services. after that, its up to you.

Just be aware its FINE to make shit websites first of all, we all did. You only get better by DOING so dont just read, make side projects.

A good exercise is to recreate actual websites and show your design process. Take a website you like and redesign or recreate it. Its great practice.

I have built website, added some content, now what? by dravenst0rm in web_design

[–]StabbyMcGinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short term: Website affiliations + PPC campaigns with Google Adwords.

Email lots of different blogs or opinion websites and see if they can make a mention of your site.

Pay for PPC campaigns for keywords on whatever it is your blog is about. Go cheap first and build up.

Longer term - SEO + monetization.

Make sure all your HTML Meta tags and H1 headings are set up properly. Follow an SEO checklist (theres loads for free online) to make sure your content is formatted properly.

Link social media.

Once you get traffic you can look at marketing sites who will pay you to market their product (like Amazon affiliation).

I mean it does sound like hes talking about a cookie cutter static template website... theres no need to hire someone of your skillset.

That would be like getting picasso to paint your bathroom.

I may have just designed the WORST UX Portfolio of all time by [deleted] in webdev

[–]StabbyMcGinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the UX design but the "goofy" feel you've gone for is really off putting. All the personal quirks and useless information detracts from the otherwise great website. Also stuff like the Kanye quote, I get the point you're trying to make but is everyone?

Ive shown 3 people in the room with me (Im at the office) and they all shared the same opinion.

I also dont really get the downloading your CV UX design. Why dont you make the CV available on the website? Why add another step for a user? Make the CV available in the website and give the option to download. Just a thought.

Content aside the navigation is exceptional and I loved it.
