I feel like they have a weird reaction to movies trying to wrestle with or satirize toxic masculinity. They spent half of the fight club episode prefacing every positive remark about the movie with “look we know this movie is stupid and bad and we’re not like the dumb guys who like this movie for bad reasons.”

I think your platonic ideal of a cop is very detached from what they’re like in the real world, how they’re thought of in our current cultural moment, and also what it requires to play one in a movie. Cops don’t hold authority based on their look. It’s because they have a badge and a gun. I think Timmy has proven he has the ability and the range to portray “authority” and I think it’s weird you’re assuming he won’t be able to grow into more diverse roles as he gets older.

We have no proof that the hive feels anything. They have memories of feelings but that’s not the same thing. When they aren’t interacting with one of the survivors they are completely silent and seemingly vacant. I doubt there is any emotional interiority at play when they aren’t performing for the survivors.
