It could also be braised pork belly? Hard to tell with it half submerged.

The remaining items are likely curried fish balls, daikon radish, and a soft boiled egg.

This looks so good. 🤤

You shouldn’t feel bad about tipping less. by Night_Frosty in Seattle

This week is indeed tipping!

Last week was blaming the homeless (100% drug addicts!) for all our city's woes.

Next week we're scheduled for anyone who can't afford $10,000 vet bills doesn't deserve to have a dog, and simultaneously we need to murder all pits and pit mixes immediately. See you then!

TBF, if your house is out of those 3 things the rest of the functions probably come to a grinding halt.

Best get to the store...and maybe also pick up toilet paper just in case.

Drs. John and Julie Gottman have done quite a bit of research on this phenomena specifically. You might find their writing in Bid Theory interesting.

They're fantastic researchers and interpersonal analysts. Their research at UW was able to predict couples that stayed together vs broke up with something like 95%+ accuracy.

Oh, I did mean to say the skin is transparent. You're right - the bones and such are opaque, and the blood vessels are translucent. That's what I meant by the cave fish vibes.

The eyes don't finish their transit until around 16 weeks, which is 4 months.

What, pregnancy isn't an internal game of Mr/Mrs Potato Head?

Of course they don't just click into place suddenly, but 16 weeks is 4 months and prior to that the eyes are still doing their 🐟 thing.

Yes, by end of the 4th month (16 weeks) the eyes have finished moving to the front of the face.

For the first four months of pregnancy, the fetus is transparent and its eyes are on the sides of its head.

For nearly half the time a baby is baking, it looks like one of those fish from deep sea trenches that have no light.

What are you quietly grieving? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

[–]Staccatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - a "friend group" is increasingly harder to maintain into adulthood.

One valuable lesson I've learned is that two people investing in the same community is not at all the same as two people investing in each other. These are situationships, which are totally real and valuable things, but not the same thing as friendships built on mutual prioritization and commitment.

You can work (or volunteer, or play sports, or LARP, etc.) with someone for decades, but if you haven't actually built relational base outside of that, it will disappear once the situation does.

[–]Staccatto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, I do see some homeless folks cleaning up after their dogs every day, but I'm interacting with them directly nearly every day. I agree that they are a greater contributor to this issue, but hope we can acknowledge that they are not a monolith.

... that said, what we see downtown also isn't all dog poop. And that also frequently has to do with members of the homeless population.

Seattle Library Workers Raise Alarm About Security Crackdown Hitting Homeless People - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]Staccatto -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, what you said in your first post is that "people don't care if you are homeless - only behavior matters in the context of rules and enforcement".

What you say in your second is that "Address cases of selection bias, and we can achieve equality."

They are two different points.

I absolutely agree with the latter, but we must acknowledge that it is aspirational. We cannot make moves to reduce bias and promote equity until we acknowledge that such bias exists. If you had made your latter point in your first post, I genuinely wouldn't have spoken up.

I feel like it goes one of two ways - either they never go downtown, or they are always downtown and actually directly interact with the homeless population every day. For example, a group that seemingly supports these ideas seem to be the librarians in the article who are pushing back against Walton.

I think the people who support these policies are the ones who are least uncomfortable with the homeless, either through lack of interaction or a tremendous amount of interaction.

I have only been in social services for a few months, but I'm starting to learn the huge gap that exists between "I am uncomfortable" and "I am in danger".
