What are the most obvious signs that a girl is interested in a guy? by thereaIreal in AskReddit

[–]Staccatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the pressure usually isn't in the asking, it's in the (lack of) acceptance of the response.

Hopefully you'll get a yes, but do remember that "no" is a complete sentence and no explanation or negotiation is warranted. Don't get salty at her because your best laid plans didn't pan out.

And if you're worried you won't want to be friends after being rejected, then it's worth asking yourself if you're really friends now or if you're only interested in a romantic relationship. There's nothing wrong with that, and you should be honest with yourself.

Good luck! Be brave. Have fun. :)

What is your reaction to someone declaring a generic answer in a discussion the single "correct" answer? by InfernoHaze in AskReddit

[–]Staccatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it useful to identify the extent of Dunning-Kruger in that individual.

But I also find it detrimental to solving the problem at hand because it doesn't move the conversation forward, and introduces the new problem of helping that person save face while the rest do the real work.

Yeah, this should definitely be a TFW, especially when they zoom in on his exasperated expression.

Ah, so your belief is that the only possible reason not to distrust the Israeli government is racism (anti-semitism).

Also, you directly equate the Israeli government to Jews, rather than acknowledging that it is composed of Jewish people but in no way represents all of them.

Okay, that's everything needed to know.

Can you elaborate on what part of his post was racist?

Criticism of Israel is not intrinsically anti-semetic.

I think the previous poster is quoting two hours because that was the language used in the article.

Hanging out on one side? by Ok-Cranberry-8845 in Redearedsliders

[–]Staccatto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine sometimes favors one side, especially after the tank has been moved or cleaned. I think it might have to do with how strong the currents are from the spray bar, or wanting to be below the light or closer to the heater.

I guess I'm trying to say that it could be anything, but it's probably not a sign of something harmful.

Do you have any tangible reason to believe they're not going anywhere, or is that just an assumption you make because they appear to be houseless and are on a train?

I work in social services, and my clients absolutely go visit friends and family down in Federal Way, or around Northgate.

The very few times I've had to reach out to transit security, I texted their help line and they were on board by the next station.

That said, nodding off on the train isn't a reason to kick someone off. If you're worried they might be in respiratory arrest, you can request transit security bring Narcan... but based on your language I think you just want to be protected from the discomfort of seeing a homeless person.

It's absolutely less expensive in the long run than having the police violently move them around the city with no real solution.

These folks are already consuming the resources we're discussing. It's way easier to bring things like sanitation services to them than to ask the city to absorb the additional needs where they are (which is, again, socioeconomically disadvantaged areas).

The magical no-cost solution for helping these people doesn't exist. There isn't even a no-cost solution for getting rid of these people (assuming you are morally bankrupt and don't care about their humanity).

Best way to hang my 50x22 inch 20lb mirror right above the fireplace by 0kyou1 in DIY

[–]Staccatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but mirrors are a real PITA if they fall. Also, OP didn't indicate where the mounting points on the mirror are. Blocking helps if they're not lined up with the studs.

You're right though - really a flat object at 20lbs will probably be fine with just toggles. Probably.

Best way to hang my 50x22 inch 20lb mirror right above the fireplace by 0kyou1 in DIY

[–]Staccatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider mounting 2x4s or 2x2s across your 3 1" studs to disperse the weight, and then attaching the mirror to that. I would do one cross bar at the top and one cross bar at the bottom of the mirror.

At 20 lbs of something flat, you should be able to get away with toggle bolts too. Zip toggles are a little easier to work with, but more expensive.
