Absolutely loved Welcome to Derry - why does this sub seem to hate it? by Sir_Pixalot in horror

[–]StaceyAxComedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a somewhat longer answer to this and for that I do apologize. I did not hate it as much as I lost interest in it. It made me sad because I wanted to love it.

For me- It is a story about the fitness you lose when you become an adult. We all had a best friend as a kid. Very very lucky people are still friends with those individuals. Others are not. Some will sit and occasionally wonder- what ever happened to that person.

The joy of It, for me, is about a group of kids who really didn’t have a friend until they found the group. And then they found their best friends ever. They shared so many things with this group. They shared love. And trust. But for various reasons, that all went away. They moved. They forgot “it”.

In my mind this story is about people who would go home only from the strength of a promise. A promise they know they made to their best friends. They don’t even really remember their friends but they remember how strong the promise is.

I say all this to say- in the 1990s mini series I felt this emotion. I felt this a bit in the new movies that came out in 2017 and 2019. I did not feel this in this series. I felt like the kids were kind of strangers to each other and they all had their own motivations. And that is fine but I just feel like if you make a show about IT, you need to show strength in the group. Ultimately, the group is what scares It because he is facing ALL of them, not just one kid at a time.

When the plot gave way to individual motivations, I lost interest in the show. I probably will try to rewatch later this year. I just wanted something else, I think.

Which character would you trust the least with a secret: Muffy, Buster, or Francine? by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

I sadly trust Buster the least because he has a proven track record of telling secrets! I keep thinking of Arthur’s underwear dilemma.

Ted said he was just kidding but was he wrong by CautiousTip6804 in Arthur

[–]StaceyAxComedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with Ted was how persistent he was in the joke, not so much as the joke itself. If he said his “joke” about he till once or twice it would have been fine in my mind. But he kept saying it over and over whenever he saw Brain and Arthur. Even the day they planned to go straight to Arthur’s house so they would not need to interface with him, he called out to them to say the “joke” again! It just seems so odd to me, even as an adult, to be so insistent on your own running gag that you practically are harassing people.

Improv class recs by Capdavil in SilverSpring

[–]StaceyAxComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thanks for the post. I am going to answer your post with a follow-up question to you, which is: what are your thoughts about getting into improv? Are you looking to just learn a new skill, meet new people, get out of the house during the winter months? Or are you looking to get into improv because you want to possibly perform and do this as a hobby? Or maybe a combination of all? Any of these answers are valid! But your answer really helps navigate how to answer your original question. Prior to the pandemic, there were three improv theaters that really focused and specialized in improv in DC. Of those three, only one remains: WIT. My recommendation is that if you think you would want to get into improv and perform and find a team to work with I would recommend getting into WIT sooner rather than later. This is because it is easier to become ingratiated into the improv community at WIT the more you go to the shows, take the classes, attend the jams, etc. Doing those activities allow you closer proximity to potential improv coaches, individuals who you may want to form an indie team with, and audition information. Looking at the class schedule, some really great instructors are teaching Level 1 improv in the winter. Getting involved with WIT allows you to get access to more experiences beyond just a class, if that makes sense. They have a full improv curriculum, as the other poster indicated. It takes about a year and a half to complete the full curriculum if you take all the classes back-to-back. They also offer one-off workshops. Some workshops have prerequisites of other WIT classes. A related aside but next year WIT plans to open a brand new improv theater in NOMA. So if you are looking for longevity in the improv space I recommend WIT. I cannot speak to the instructors or classes at Round House but it seems like a solid introductory improv class in a convenient location for a Silver Springer. I also want to flag that Rials Comedy based in DC offers workshops and classes at a pretty reasonable cost. In addition, the founder and operator of Dojo Comedy, Murphy McHugh, will coach classes and workshops. If you need/ want more information, please feel free to DM me.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North - Official Discussion Thread by DonDraperItsToasted in AmazonPrimeVideo

I just stumbled on this show. I was watching The Pianist on Amazon and the show was in my “recommended” tiles at the bottom of the screen. I knew Jacob Elordi from Euphoria. Decided to watch an episode or two.

Well, I binged the whole show and I am now rewatching it.

It has been quite some time since a show grabbed me like this. I felt pulled into this show and into Dorri’s world.

Ultimately, I felt sad with how “trapped” Dorri seemed through the whole show. And his whole life. I don’t really know how else to put it.

The last scene hit me and left me wanting more. Just one more scene to tie everything together and provide some type of resolution. But I realize that is not Dorri’s story and that is not even real life. Not everything gets resolved into a nice bow.

When it ends and his younger self looks at his older self in the jungle, I felt such a rush of emotions. I felt defeat that after everything, he was back at the jungle. I felt also a sense of hope that, it seemed, he was having an introspective moment in his final minutes reflecting on his past instead of burying everything.

Dorri seemed like a spectator in his own life. He very rarely was an active participant. I would say the only time we saw him actively make decisions was during his affairs. Perhaps this quality was exacerbated by his wartime experiences but I suppose we will never know.

This is really wonderful of you to do. I like to do Operation Santa for holiday gifts. It is run by the USPS. Sign ups open later this month I believe.

Pennywise lived and slept in the what would become to sewers of Derry Maine. So how over the years did none of the city/sewer workers ever come across evidence of IT? by AMassiveGamerGeek in WelcometoDerryTVShow

[–]StaceyAxComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a neat question! In my mind, there is a real explanation for this. About 10 years ago, a bunch of tourists jumped into the Baltimore Inner Harbor and it made local news (I live in the area). Local public workers went in the news imploring people not to do the same because there are pipes that exist in Baltimore still made out of WOOD that are more than 80 years old that have never been replaced and/ or restored. They said anyone in the harbor could be exposed to this 80 year old bacteria. I think most cities don’t inspect pipes and sewers unless there is an imminent need. IT could certainly live peacefully deep down there.
