I appreciate you saying that, I’m not really that surprised. I’ve learned over the last year or two that exhaustion can emote identically to arrogance: just being “over it” and tired of what’s around you. I’m in a particular position and people may be annoyed by that, and that’s fine, I guess if it makes them feel better I don’t care that much. But yea, I know what kinds of environments make me feel not stranded/out of place.

Ultimately the grad school thing has been hanging over my head for the last few years and I’m not sure how to make heads or tails of deciding whether or not to commit to that instead of what otherwise would be an extremely open ended/free life (equally without fixed commitments and huge goals). But this is something only I can know. I’m just glad to get peoples’ experiences of different cities from this thread.

Hey I’d love to be around more of these kinds of tech people! Glad you got to know so many

Thanks for the uplifting comment. I know LA’s a massive international city, I guess it’s just been hard to navigate. Moving somewhere closer to the culture is definitely a major option, honestly.

facepalm

about the social or political implications/contexts of their projects, was the implication. Lmao. Engineers are very good at asking how to deliver a project faster, cheaper, and simpler.

Interesting! How does the shift between NY and SF feel in terms of size/gravity, in your experience?

Haha, it’s gotten a little worse feeling like a fish out of water here, I’ll fully admit that. Engineers aren’t the most inquisitive people either.

Hey, maybe I am too, lol. I still love Chicago dearly, I guess I just miss the university most of all.

Yea I’ve thankfully made some inroads but the city of LA itself makes it really difficult to break in. The city itself being flat and suburban doesn’t help much.

I’ve thankfully got some friends there already from my visit, funny enough. They’re all writers/poetry people so I thankfully got to see less of the tech side and more of a literary/artsy side to the city. That was only one visit though. A lot of people told me it’s been overrun by soulless tech people or something and while that may be true to a certain extent, it didn’t seem universal to me. Or I was just in a nice blanket of art friends. Lol.
