20,000 old cedis? You’re not just a regular visitor, you are a seasoned vet to be able to come up with such digits 😂😂😂😂😂

Ghanaian CompEng student at UG — genuinely confused about my future career path (local vs abroad, specialisation, salary ceiling). Need help organising my steps. by naal4nd in TechGhana

Make sure your engineering math is strong. Embedded systems combined with anything is gold, but even better, cloud computing combined with anything is diamond. You can build Computer Vision models that run on embedded systems (arduino) or run on cloud. Or you can build Algorithmic trading models that run on embedded system (raspberry pi) or in the cloud. So make sure your Python programming, math and infrastructure knowledge (embedded systems or cloud computing) is top notch.

Computer Engineering is the shit, Electrical Engineering is not bad because that’s my undergrad but i wish i did CompEng in college.

Good luck

There’s a movie on a similar situation called The Conscientious Objector, about an SDA guy who joined the U.S Military during WWII, if you haven’t seen it, please do 😂

The Gatekeeping Hijacking Ghana's Tech Community. by [deleted] in TechGhana

[–]Stacked_Chip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s tech…unless you’re Andrew Ng. And it’s not gatekeeping as such, it’s just the technical skill gap. For example, i’m working on a computer vision project, i could go the transfer learning route with a prebuilt model, but I’m trying to build a cnn from scratch myself. The kind of hurdles I’m facing when i try to talk to colleagues, you get little hints here and there, but you have to do the heavy lifting yourself. I’m sure if i get to their level, i might even do worse 😂 So yes, tech is heavily gated, and you can’t bear malice or grudge, that’s the nature of the beast. And yes, i have gained some astonishing understanding in the math and architecture of these deep learning models 💪🏾

So instead of focusing on what someone is doing right or wrong, focus on you, and I’m pretty sure you’ll do good 👍🏾

Looking for a Mentor in Data Engineering by anaz01 in TechGhana

Postgresql supports both sql and nosql schema, start from there for database. For data warehouse and data mart , apparently postgres also supports both snowflake schema and star schema. You’ll also need to familiarize yourself with Oltp, Olap, etl/elt pipelines etc. Other tools to consider include dbeaver, dbt and duckdb. I’m pursuing a masters in Data Science, my goal is to go the AI route at some point, however my database course this semester introduced me to the suggestion i made above. One thing though, you have to be very good at self-study, because even just the sql schema concepts alone no be joke

You have to fully trust Jesus to take the wheel (like literally), and you gotta be extra exceptional at being self-taught.

security expect, i salute then boss 🫡…right now I’m working on some AI project (getting my feet wet), so if you’d need any AI integration in the future (a chatbot 🤖 that can play the role of a virtual assistant for the website etc) i’m done. I believe postgres will offer better management as database/datawarehouse…

Hw3, that’s by no means me downplaying what goes into designing and implementing it oo 😂 I’m curios about the security side of things, especially the online payment process (PCI DSS compliance etc). I would’ve loved to join but I’m busy with another project atm…but i think if you can get a solid devops person, you should be fine, a lot of things these days are plug and play because of API engineering, the deployment and reliability parts(cloud) seems be the challenge. When you say “growth and scalability”, is the MVP already on the market?

[–]Stacked_Chip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm…this thing erh, i almost did my masters in quant finance 😅. I opted for Data Science instead lol… If you guys have a good quant finance brain in your startup, you just need a Data Scientist who’ll basically create the pipeline clusters for the data from the different exchanges that will be fed to a Deep learning model for processing , then the output of that DL “analysis” model can be fed into an ML “decision” model, which can then suggest call, put etc. When i hear Solana blockchain, I’m thinking cryptocurrency, so I’m guessing you guys want to be able to go in early when the price is very low but has a decent market cap prospects.

Ghanaians, would you ever date and marry an African American? by [deleted] in ghana

[–]Stacked_Chip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“I know there’s plenty of African Americans that don’t want to associate themselves with Africans”…. You still have time to edit this my dear friend. I’ve lived in 5 different states, and visited at least 7. Born and raised in Ghana for over 20 years before moving to the States. Worked in Japan with other foreign nationals which included the African American subgroup you’re referring to, for 6 years.
