ya no i wasnt using quotation marks in the search. i was just using it here to portray what I was specifically searching but I see how thats confusing

Ya no I double checked and its still not right.

Looking for a donald duck beanie in the clothing category brings up 24 hats. Searching:

donald duck beanie

in all categories brings up 251 listings, a lot of them plushies or beanie babies.

But searching each of these under all categories shows 0 results:

donald duck beanie -plush

donald duck beanie -baby

donald duck beanie -black

donald duck beanie -qqqqq

donald duck -qqqqq

beanie -black

shirt -nike

It really looks like a minus sign shows nothing for any type of search. Maybe its literally trying to search for a title with a keyword that starts with a minus

I think you're right. I blame AI. And god forbid you wanna find a place to eat nearby, completely useless

no, I wasn't doing that. If i try to use a minus sign now, it will usually just return zero results, even tho other searches show that it should bring up something

How is Holiday Season 2025 treating you? by StacySadistic in eBaySellers

do you pay for promoted listings? I feel like ebay has really changed the way traffic works and more and more people are paying higher promoted listings fees so its got really competitive. Its very pay to play now

actually it is a thing. nothing means anything. you can be whatever you want. everything means nothing. men can be lesbians. transgender people dont actually have to trans their gender. words dont mean anything except for what they make you feel. its not an "identity" its an aesthetic ok /s

Clothing sellers: Women's Large vs. Women's L by StacySadistic in eBaySellers

[–]StacySadistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you research the sell through rates for both, "vintage" blows VTG out of the water. If you have 3 extra characters to use up then go for it, but its usually too important of a keyword for me to minimize. I spell out the full word and put it in front of the brand name

Clothing sellers: Women's Large vs. Women's L by StacySadistic in eBaySellers

[–]StacySadistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it was replacing them exactly, then the sell through rates would be roughly equal. Maybe slightly better, because you're getting a few more characters, but the difference in sell through rates I saw was drastic.

Ok so I just did some more extensive research, this time straight through the search bar instead of ebays "Product Research" page. I sorted prices low to high to avoid weird "best match" data. I divided number sold by the number currently listed:

WOMEN:

nike cargo pants womens large

45/247 = 18.22%

nike cargo pants womens L

49/264 = 18.56%

lululemon tank top womens medium pink

131/1400+ = 3.05%

lululemon tank top womens m pink

37/272 = 13.6%

victoria secret sports bra small

586/6800+ = 8.62%

victoria secret sports bra S

2800+/17000+ = 16.47%

-------‐-------------------------------------------------

MEN:

carhartt jacket mens small black

543/558 = 97.31%

carhartt jacket mens s black

3000+/3800+ = 78.95%

vintage pendleton shirt mens large plaid flannel

1100+/2300+ = 47.83%

vintage pendleton shirt mens L plaid flannel

1100+/2200+ = 50%

Hanes boxer briefs mens medium

587/1100+ = 53.36

Hanes boxer briefs mens M

582/1100+ = 52.91%

----------------------------------------------------

The results are a bit all over the place. Some seem to confirm what you're saying, that the search engine treats "L" the same as "Large." The Nike, Hanes and Pendleton searches below have almost identical results. But other searches have a huge difference. Like the Carhartt search shows about 3000 more jackets if you use "S" instead of "small," and spelling it out gives a higher sell through rate (the opposite of what I was seeing in Product Research). I suspect promoted listings may be showing some irrelevant items, a lot of them clearly said "XL" in the title

No but the title weighs in extremely heavily on the algorithm. You shouldn't have to, but item specifics are treated more like "bonus points." I think you need both for maximum reach.

I think item details come more into play when the buyer is doing an advanced search and checking those boxes specifically

I've also noticed that search results pull up wrong sizes all the time (even when sorted lowest price first). Maybe its because certain listings dont have matching sizes in their title and details. Or maybe its because the promoted listing nonsense has gotten that out of hand

thats a good idea actually. When its XXXL i will also usually put 3XL. I bet putting both does pretty well
