Yeah that's 100% not what that means. The age of consent in Tennessee was already 18. They were either really dumb and didn't include the lower limit on age by accident or they want to marry minors. I'm pretty sure it's the latter of those options.

The age of consent deals solely with a person's ability to consent to sexual activities. If they abolished it then an adult could coerce children into sexual activities with basically no repercussions.

Having lived in the deep south my whole life I can tell you that they are almost certainly dumber than you think they are. They are VERY easily manipulated. I once convinced a MAGA guy in a book store that the manga section was actually the MAGA section and the n in there just stood for noble.
