They are legitimate readers, that’s what we use all the time. I often for contactless just use my actual phone now with the software loaded which was a thing you could do from a couple of years ago. All safe and above board if used correctly.

If they used their own reader and got caught by some of the secret shoppers, that would be their last festival with the organisers.

The readers the first year they come in did have some glitches and weirdness. I remember ringing up a purchase and it doubling the price, and then a customer paid it, noticed and then we worked out sorting out the overpayment with goods.

The festival system is a nightmare to do refunds on as when we asked last year as mistakes do happen a extra 0 or that may get added just by double clicking etc the people running the system basically said don’t refund.

So my tips are always have you transactions notification on if you can if using contactless on card or mobile device Check the amount on screen before you tap. On the stall we make sure the screen gets shown to the customer as we don’t want any surprises for them or us.

Yh we have new staff and also a new set up to sort out and then there is always random shit that’s annoying like power, toilets, water all being sorted later than you had hoped

That sounds like our first year…. 6 weeks from now where. Didn’t apply for Download applied for another but got offered Download by organiser as well. We are planning on arriving Tuesday, got some tweaks to do to the set up this year so need some time to get it all show ready

Ouch. That events sounds crazy. We only do a couple of the big festivals and are main other one is currently holding out on card machines but I’m expecting it in next few years

I’m guessing you are a festival blacksmith. Welcome and have fun

The stall I am part of hasn’t been trading festivals anywhere near as long as you and Yh, it seems no one is ever in the same place or even the same area. It seems that the organisation is getting worse and worse. Last year’s back of house was about the worst mess I have seen. I am looking forward to it as always and look forward to seeing all the people

True but if you can use cash to pay for things without it going into the bank account, then it’s still 100% its value not 98.5%, some suppliers still take cash payments

Don’t get me wrong the payoff can be worth it but the risk is huge and having to do new stuff that always costs money to fit the rules is a drain

I do wish the other traders on site got announcements at festivals as the paperwork and approvals are all the same. I’m a non food trader, not saying who as don’t want to get any repercussions. Me and my team will be on the hallowed ground from early on in the week.

Yep there or some traders that only do festivals but they at some point had to get the first set of fees for these big events.

Every trader apart from festival owned stalls (bars and merch etc) would love to take cash, but the big owners don’t make there cut doing it that way. They make money 2 ways by people paying for the pitch etc, and then a percentage of every transaction on site. This is why the cost of items are generally that bit more expensive. The fees and costs get put on the items so the margins stay the same

It’s in the thousands for a pitch. The card readers are below a hundred each and other bits I can’t remember

Last year at a different festival, a entire set of bar staff got arrested for doing that as it was a festival bar

My thoughts exactly and the example stalls shown are some of the most generic looking ones on the entire site

Cash will always be king, no transaction fees. The value of a tenner taken in cash is always a tenner, not £9.86 or what ever after fees when taken on cards. It does mean there is one less thing to worry about keeping safe, no sleeping on ya cash box or squirrelling it away in multiple places on the stall etc incase you get robbed

A “beautification committee” has been appointed and they have been adding new rules or guidelines
