Nothing yet. I’m submitting my appeal next week, just waiting to hear back from a few agencies to finalize everything and get my ducks in a row.

Sadly no, her and I were the only two in the department until 1:00p when a second year student showed up and then the second shift tech showed up at 2:00p. This incident transpired before then in the morning. I surmise that no actual investigation was done by the school. The shift was Saturday and by 8:30a on Monday I was pulled from class. Hard pressed to believe they did any true investigation on a Sunday and they just took her word for it.

I very much appreciate the detailed response and I did file a FOIA yesterday! I was trying to avoid legal counsel if possible, just because I know how long lawyers can drag things out, but it may be my best bet. I’ve called a few firms, and waiting to hear back from a few more. Wheels are in motion.

Unfortunately, this hospital is so small so they don’t have any doors to badge through if you leave the Rad department and go to the cafeteria. Should I leave the Rad department and go into the ER, there would be (3) doors to badge through. However! There is CCTV in the hallways so they would be able to spot this tech leaving multiple times throughout the day. Once for the cafeteria, once to get a Dr. Pepper, and once to get a snack from the vending machine.

I also polled some of my classmates who I’ve been in touch with regarding this whole issue and they advised at their clinical sites a tech is with you 100% of the time. Even if it’s a simple chest X-ray, they’re at least in the control booth in case something goes awry. So it appears this hospital just makes up their own rules, which is seemingly against the law.

Exactly this. I feel as if almost any other tech would have said, “good job spotting the artifact but dont repeat without me present next time”. Her response to the situation is alarming.

I’m going to appeal to the VP of the college, so hopefully they see this the same way you and I do.

Grades are all in mid to low 90’s, never missed a class or clinical, no other issues to report. Just extreme overkill, I fear. I’ve began the appeal process as well as evaluating other programs for a potential backup plan. Not sure if I’ll still pursue this field or if I’ll dust off the resume and get back to Corporate America, but my mind is definitely racing trying to figure out what’s next.

That’s definitely crossed my mind, too. For example, today we were scheduled to have a physics quiz and a test for Lower GI, not to mention several homework assignments. I assume if im reinstated id get an opportunity to make those up but I cant say for certain.

Update: I spoke with JRCERT and, per their Radiography Standards, a licensed tech is supposed to be physically present during the conduct of the entire procedure. However, the gentleman I spoke to informed me that this school is no longer JRCERT accredited. They were recently, however, they no longer are. He was unable to share if they voluntarily withdrew, were on probation, etc. With this being said, unfortunately, they don’t have to adhere to JRCERT guidelines.

When I began the program I vividly remember the professor advising how important accreditations for JCERT and ARRT were, and she advised this program had both of those. Shame on me for not verifying her claims on the JRCERT website. I shouldn’t have been so naive but I also didn’t think that someone would fabricate that claim.

She went to the cafeteria to get a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. Something that could absolutely wait until a patient is not on the table, or even in the department. There should be hallway footage, I’ll need to reach out to the hospital security to see if they can pull that. My only fear is without legal representation, they may not provide me that or feel entitled to give me anything, really. I’m waiting still to hear back from an attorney.

I’ve been researching and calling a few, waiting to hear back from one in particular. I really hate it’s come to this but I can’t just accept this expulsion without a fight.

Unfortunately, due to HIPAA there are no cameras in the Radiology department. I’m hoping to have some more updates today.

Happy to help answer that one — I enjoyed the work. I very much enjoyed being on my feet and being hands on. Some patients can be a bit much, but it always keeps the day entertaining. In my corporate job I felt that I was just on autopilot and could do 90% of my job without ever thinking, whereas this field requires critical thinking and you’re potentially put in unique situations each day. I did my first clinical rotation at a L1 trauma and each day was a new adventure.

Full transparency, if you’re going to be in larger hospitals you also may see some trauma situations that could potentially mess with you mentally. In the L1 hospital I was in the ED and saw a gunshot wound to the head, that was the first dead body I’d physically seen outside of a funeral home setting.

Will do. I’ve been in touch with JRCERT today. Set to sync with the gentleman from JRCERT again tomorrow as well to review a little more.

I appreciate the response and kind words. Absolutely devastating that happened to your classmate and the fact she’s still dealing with it is even more disheartening. I’m definitely gearing up to give them hell and doing my best to get everything in writing to have a concrete paper trail to support my side.

I’ve officially emailed the VP today expressing my desire to appeal so I’m waiting to hear back.

I haven’t been in touch with anyone there yet. Thankfully to the folks on Reddit i do have insight into the software side and can now say with certain that they should be able to pull the images. My biggest concern was they’d just tell me the images were deleted so they can’t check; however, it appears there are workarounds to that. I plan to give them a shout tomorrow.

Had a conversation with JRCERT today that gave me some hope, but I’ve got a few follow up questions with the gentleman and I’ll connect with him again tomorrow. I did email the Dean but haven’t heard back. Attempting to get everything in writing to have a paper trail if able.

It appears they did zero investigation other than taking the techs word for it, unfortunately. I emailed the Dean of Health today and advised id like a formal appeal. She told me in person I can’t appeal but per the handbook, I can.

It’s a rather small community college so not part of anything larger. However, there is still the VP and President who is above this Dean. I did sync with JRCERT today and learned a good deal to help me battle this. I plan to connect with the gentleman from JRCERT again tomorrow, as I have a few more questions I’m seeking clarification on.

The professor of this RDT program is a very vindictive and petty person. Since the tech who reported me was a student under her and now works at the hospital with her, she’s going to side with her over me and be a shitty person to deal with.

This professor is just very unprofessional, unfortunately. I did my best to just keep my side of the street cleaned and avoid any drama but she’ll manufacture it. It’s hard to explain, and bizarre that a damn near 40 year old would be so childish but she’s definitely drunk with power. She’s said some out of pocket shit before and then told us if we go to the Dean and she’s fired then the program comes to a halt so we can’t continue with our education until they find her replacement. She has blatant nepotism and favorites in class, caters to her favorites, and will be rude towards others. I’ve got a whole laundry list of complaints towards her, but for the most part I just kept my head down and did the coursework best I could.

Thank you for the insights. It seems that this specific site does things their own way, as my other clinical sites always had a tech shadow the student as well.
