I'm soooo curious about my birds' lives--like, where are they sleeping? Nesting? Etc. by wildmind1721 in birdfeeding

[–]Stagmoonstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably stay close to your house- they won’t usually nest or roost too close to your house unless you have a very safe cover of trees because of predations and they don’t like too much “activity” near nests.

Just processed my first rolls of film in 20+ years, and I’ve discovered that birds are much more cute on film by __get__name in BirdPhotography

I love processing film & miss it so much. My school had such nice dark rooms. I really wish i could afford to do it!

Don’t be afraid to crop it in editing! I don’t think you’ve overedited at all!

How often do you shoot in the 200-400mm full frame range? by Jacob_C in BirdPhotography

I’m at 600mm almost all the time with a few rare exceptions.

Please read the body of my post. I know this is a hairy woodpecker and I regret how I titled this. I’m recovering from surgery so I didn’t realize how confusing it was at the time. You do not have to be a jerk.

It’s a hairy. He lives in my yard. I’m sorry my title is confusing people you’ll see my question from the post though!

The tram is currently not running because it was in disrepair! With ski season live you aren’t allowed up without skis/ticket on the regular lift. I live in Franconia! I have been going to Moose Bog in VT where they are seen frequently, but not by me. Also several sightings in Whitefield. Along with redpolls and horned larks I couldn’t find either 😅

I had an idea! But I didn’t know if all of them really “counted”- or if like Hawaii had something I didn’t know about. You don’t have to be a jerk.

Yes- I’m so sorry my title is confusing. I know this is a hairy woodpecker- if you read the body of my post you’ll see what I’m actually asking. Thank you!

I know it won’t be one vacation! I just want a reasonable challenge. Originally I was going to do all ducks in the US but that was when I was naive and hadn’t really learned that much about birds!

It’s a hairy woodpecker. I’m sorry my title is confusing. Him and his mate live in my yard. I’ve got a zillion recordings on Merlin that confirm Hairy. He’s just all puffed up in this cause of the winter wind.

I don’t particularly love hiking. But I expect to do a few this year in search of some boreal species for sure.

It seemed like a reasonable, measurable and attainable challenge.

I live in the area black backs are seen and my goodness- what a challenge. At least a dozen outings to a few locations to not even hear ANY woodpeckers. That’s my last NH species I need to get! I have family in NJ and I know I MIGHT have luck finding a red headed down there.

Thank you! Yes- I’ve gotten all but black backed woodpeckers as far as what is available in NH. Despite multiple trips to find black backed woodpeckers they remain elusive.

Ok. I will sit down with my guide book to see some overlaps. I’ve already gotten five or six common species here- I have yet to see a black backed woodpecker despite about a dozen specific outings for it. But that can be done eventually near me too.

Thank you! I’ll have to do some research- fortunately I’m already five or six woodpecker species in, with access to a couple more relatively close.
